g-floor over old glue, any issue?

I recently moved into a townhouse where the previous owners installed carpet in the garage and then proceeded to get it wet and stinky (snowmelt, leaky old freezer, possibly some kind of animal??) so one of the first things I did was rip it up. The carpet came up easy enough but the glue/mastic is still on the floor (applied with a trowel apparently). I've tried a few things but it's apparent that a grinder/diamabrush is going to be needed to get it up, after which I would want some kind of epoxy, and basically I don't want to deal with that right now.

Can I put a g-floor mat directly over the glue without an issue? It's relatively smooth.

Also, is there any issue putting a toolbox/shelving/workbench on the mat, or should I consider some kind of combo of tile and mat instead?

My garage is approximately 10.5 x 21 feet, so I would be using the 10x24 g-floor (small coin pattern).

Side note... They even glued the carpet to the step into the house!

You have a couple of potential issues. First, not all glues are PVC safe and in general not knowing what this glue is, we could not speak to how it will perform. Some glues stay tacky others cure hard. If its hard and level, obviously its less of an issue.

You need to let the mat acclimate before placing anything heavy on it. Generally something like a TrueLock HD tile will outperform the mats in this environment.

It's definitely not tacky. It's hard and "crunchy". I've been parking and walking on it since the carpet came out.
