I've recently come across this G-L Micrometer. Fortunately it was in a box lot, and I got it cheap.

The poor thing looks like it was cast out of used Pepsi cans, and reeks of "CHEAP"

Does anyone know anything about this tool?

I actually had one of those things - absolute garbage as far as being reliable for everyday use in a machine shop environment. Cheap is a high compliment for it. Mine got put on the radiac wheel because I could not even justify keeping it in my collection as being 'unique' and sent out to be remade into something useful, like a rusty piece of Chinese steel. I was told by another machinist that they were mainly used as a teaching aid back in the day when they still offered machine shop in regular high schools as well as vo-tech schools. The reason being, these were cheap enough to be able to be dropped when the student was learning how to read and use one correctly before letting them get their hands on the good ones (Lufkin, Starrett, Brown & Sharpe, etc.).
