I have decided to go with this electric unit for my 300 square foot, well insulated shop. Seems likes a lot of positive feedback on this unit!

Where are you guys buying them at? I want to get one ASAP!

I got mine from http://www.air-n-water.com/ - but it's gone up about $70 since I bought mine in the summer. They had the best price - in August it was $279 with free shipping. Now it's $349! :wtf:

I don't have any feed back on heating yet - no real chill here yet. But I can tell you it survived a fall from 8' to a concrete floor. Well, the electronics survived. It needs a little body work now. ;) But on a test run it heats fine, blows air about 16' and the case does not get hot. Come on cold snap (it was 95F yesterday, 58F right now LOL)

I just bought one here:

http://www.greenhousemegastore.com/Electric-Utility-Heater/productinfo/HT-UTIL/

$259 delivered in two days! Delivered from grainger too (wierd?). I almost bought from Amazon for $350. But I kept reading online that people were picking these things up for like $250. So I did a google search and found this website down on like the 17th google page. I gambled b/c it doesn't explicitly call it a dayton G73. But that is what I got in the mail. I haven't had a chance to install yet. But I'm only trying to heat a small 20 X 24 detached garage.

Just ordered mine! $259 total and said it will go out UPS today and have by Monday!

Ebay was close to cost but another $20. Dealtime and AirNWater was around
$350...........

Talked to my electrician who is putting all the lights and fans in my garage week after next and he said he will set this baby up, hard wire it and all for $150.

Thanks for all the help, guys!

How far from walls should the g73 be mounted? I am looking to get a spot wired in before the insulation company puts the stuff in the garage attic.

Thanks!!

The manual says 7 1/2" minimum. I put mine about 4' out from the panel, so I could swivel it around to point most places in the shop. The bracket spaces it from the ceiling, otherwise minimum clearance is stated as 1 5/8".

Thanks Falcon 67!!!!!

I have a 48x24 garage, looking to heat just the right side of 24x24, wall down middle with a 6 foot door that can be closed to left side (2-3 foot doors side by side); man door in right front, 2 windows along front middle to front left. No windows on right or back wall. Thinking of putting windows in back wall for additional ventilation for summer work projects.

Where would you place the heater? Direct center is out as work light there. Thanks for all of your help and suggestions!!

Mine is 20x24, so if you picture that as a rectangle short side down mine would be about 6' up and 4' left of the lower right hand corner. Said 4' earlier but remembered it's hung on the next joist. This puts it between the path in from the man door and the overhead (both on same wall behind heater). It's kinda aimed across the shop. It's just "this side" of the overhead door rail and mounted to a joist and straight out from the breaker panel - all more a convenience spot than anything scientific. No light there, away from the wall (got something -shelving, stuff, etc on nearly every wall near the ceiling), easy for power. I'm 6'1" and can walk right under it (8' ceiling, no drywall). HTH. In testing I can feel the warm air moving at the tool box and lathe bench, which is about 18' away from the heater. The work benches are on the upper side and both left and right, so having it swivel a bit lets me point it where I might be working. The reviews lead me to believe it should warm the place up all over without too much trouble.

Just ordered this Dayton G73 heater from Greenhouse Megastore for $259, includes shipping. I should have it either Monday or Tuesday. I was not thinking about getting a heater but at that price, it seems like a non- brainer.

Thanks to all the comments and suggestions!!

ive been lookin at the same heater...im wondering what it would cost to use the electric heater? like with it always on to kick on and off at certain temp vs. just using it on weekends or whenever working in garage?

Easy - heater pulls 5kWhr as configured from the factory. So:

(# hours run X 5 ) X your cost per kWhr

For here, 10 hours would be 50 X .09 = $4.50

These things seem pretty spendy to operate. How much has your guys' electric bill gone up?

If you have a small room like me 15x20 with 9' ceilings and VERY WELL insolated, it should not run very much at all! If you keep it around 40 degree's (just above freezing) when you're not out there then bump it up to 55-60 1-2 days a week when you are. It should not run but maybe an hour or 2 an average per day. That would only be about $1.00 per day.

Run it 5 hours average a day it is still only $2.25 per day. $68 a month.
Our cost per kwh is $.089 here in Iowa

I really like mine and use it to kill the chill, not make the shop women friendly.
 I put mine on a pivot so I can turn it to "help" warm whatever bay I am working in.

nonhog...Did you pivot the heater by just using the washers on top and bottom of bracket as shown in the install instructions, or did you make your own pivot?

Thanks!!

thanks for the link! that's a really good price.

seems like there are 2 different models one noted 6100 and another one with 8500. is that wattage consumption? which one does most people get? does 8500 one require more than 30amp connection?

I am considering selling mine. Used a couple of hours.
I am in northern californica just not get cold enough, and I ran out of 240V circuits so it's just not doing anything now.
probably asking $220 shipped for it.

Not cold enough yet. Costs $15 a shot to fill the 7 gallon propane tank that can't be filled all the way due to the required valve. And a tank lasts about 25 hours. So it's still cheaper for the propane, not counting unhooking everything, loading the tank in the truck, tieing it up and driving 48 miles round trip to get it filled. Or leaving it in the back of the truck and hoping it's still there when you get off work. My time is worth something.

I'll post a pic later, try tonight.

weicm3... The units that Greenhousemegastore sells ship from Grainger, they must have some arrangement already made. When I called to check on shipment status today, they said the heater ships from Grainger. I am sure they pay Grainger a fee per unit and then save on warehouse costs.

Just a guess.

Falcon 67.. Thanks for the picture. I received the heater today from Greenhouse Megastore, fine shape and no damage.

My heater has a nut in the top center to attach threaded rod to. It looks like from
your picture that you are also using a threaded rod in top to hang from ceiling. Any reason to be concerned about the nut in the top of heater base working lose with time?

Thanks again for all of your help.

My installation for the detached garage. Excuse the walls, I gutted this garage because it was falling apart when I bought the house. Just haven't gotten around to insulating and drywalling. I like the idea of using the threaded nut on top instead of the supplied bracket. After I finish the inside of the garage I may switch to that method. I'm not for sure of the cost to operate this unit but I wasn't up to running a gas line from the house to this garage.
