First post here. I am trimming out a metal building barndominium as owner builder and need some advice on how to finish the gable ends of the trim and what the standard is for the type of trim that I have.

There are end caps that were provided with the trim package, but what I'm not sure of is how the overhang goes or needs to be cut. As I have it now there is a lot of backside of trim exposed and I'm not sure I like it. I can find a ton of images showing closed gable trim, but it's all on 90deg. flat pieces.

Is this how it goes, or do I need to do something different? Thanks!

I've never seen that trim before, I usually use a std corner, but I don't see any reason to leave that long (sidewall) piece that extends beyond the closure. I'd leave the skyward portion along but take my shears to the side in some fashion. (that's impossible to describe in words)
Basically I'd mimic the little front turn down you made and follow that around the side. Then depending on how rigid those supplied closure is, possibly leave enough material to fold the side back against the closure with some creative pop rivets.
That is if this is part of your concern. 👍

It looks real crisp from the side, which I like. I could 45 from the top closure tab in to meet the corner trim and then cut it down flush with the corner trim as one possibility.

Something like this which I think is what jack stand is talking about, but I would cut it out instead of leaving tabs. I think folding tabs with the angles would be difficult.

you would think they give you a plastic cap for the end, but they dont, the gutter butts up there

i ended up cutting a piece of wood to fit up there, painted it and screw to fill that end void. I kept getting birds and climbing snake, rats
