I wanted to start showing a little progress on my FIRST shop/ garage ever.Ive been setting it up on the sticky so had to come make a post to get it rolling.

A lil history, i work as a gas turbine startup engineerso i may get a call at any time of the day or night and have to fly across the country or even to BFE. Generally summers we are a lil slowers because the turbines would rather make there peak price.

So last summer i finally had some funny money saved up to get started and we hauled a red clay/ sand mix from the back of my 40 acres to start preparing for the pad.I didnt get any picktures of this because i ha 1 person on the mini excavator, 1 in the truck and me on the tractor and it only took them 5 minutes from the time he dumped and was back with another load so i was busy the whole time spreading.

It started off as just a 30x50 building with an 8x8 roll up on the front and a 10x10 rollup on hte north end and a 38 ft steel door on the south end. Then we added a 14ft gable style carport on the south end.

Well it sat that way thru the next fall and spring outage seasons. Once i finally got a lil down time i added an 18 lean to on the front spanning the entire 64 ft and a 10 ft the same way on the back, i would of liked to go wider but the horse waterer and feeders and fenceing is to close for that now.

As of now im working on the inside. I mounted an 200 amp Eaton meter box on the outside corner with its own disconnect and 10 normal space breakers or 20 slim line breakers. This is so i dont have to pierce throught the metal and foam insulation for any add ons to the barn, rv and air compressor and dust collector that will be enclosed by the office and rest room. Im definitly not a woodworker nor welder but im doing it all on my own with the aid of my 21 yr old nefue. ill post a few pictures on how its coming along.

A few pictures while we were building it...

Thought i was going to have a little time to start on the inside before my next project so i started cleaning it out. basically it turned into unorgaized storage for the motorcycles, 4 wheeler, bad boy mower, rzr and lots of other junk...

Had to stop on it again while i got called down to a power plant in Corpus Cristi Tx for a few weeks. the day before i left i went to my metal man and ordered all the galvanized tubing, perlins and metal roof so i could start the additions as soon as i got back.

Winters in Louisiana dont need for a full on enclosed garage to park in. Mine is mainily to keep ice off the windsheilds in the winter and to keep the blarring sun turning the inside of the vehicles into a roaster that takes a few miles down the road to get cooled off...

the back lean will be for a 10x14 outdoor kitchen on the back of the carport, a 10x17 office with restroom and shower with storage for the air compressor and dustcollector on the other side of the wall. the rest of the 30 or so ft will be inclosed for storing the toys in so the workspace doesnt turn into strictly storage.

made a trip to Lowes and Home Depot to get some materials so i could get started on my walls as soon as i go back from Arizona as i had scheduled the foam insulators a lil to tight and had to hustle when the project was over to get home and get the studs up and electrical ran.

my 200 amp inside panel and outside mete basse with panel are both supported by a welded unistrut system welded to the corner beams.

I hadnt planned on covering above 8ft or the ceilings so they spreayed everything. after looking at it and thinking about painint the foam i realized i would never care for that look. I ordered a few of the long blade foam cutting knivers and went around all over cutting straigt lines up the walls above the 8ft lines and removeing the spray on the ridge cap. A note no matter what your going to do tell them you are covering everything that way they dont cover your metal beams on the sides and bottoms and have uneven drips on the vaulted ceilings.

Oh for the electrical i probably went a lil overboard. I pulled 10/2 romex to each spot where the workbenches will be, each on the own30 amp breaker. Each wall has its own dedicatated 30amp, each outside wall has its own dedicated 30 amp. I used some old fiberglass heat trace termination boxes with screw on compression fittings and ran them for the future kitchen and office and front lights that way there mounted and through the building, squeezed tiight with the gromits and sparay foamed over them. I ran some spare cuircuits inside on the center beams up by the ceiling for future ceiling fans. The welding maching 50 amps will be ran in conduit behind the workbenches and duplex receptcles will be ran along the front of the benches and inside the upper cabinets for charging batteries and some point of use lights.

Got the walls and the osb ceiling painted storm coat grey. theres an 8 ft wall of osb that goes all the way around the sides. the north bay has a corrugated tin ceiling and the 2 ft void on the walls have corrugated tin. the last bay will have a 8ft ceiling all the way across and this will be for storage, it will have almost 6ft in the center that i can lift with the front of my tractor and store larger items, the sides will have 2ftx 16 ft storage and will be good to slide long deminisional lumber or steel for storage.

We got all the tin up yeaterday and all that is left for it is the trim peices to put around...

i took advantage of some bf sales and coupons to pick up a few things i was goin to need pretty soon when i started fabbing up my workbenches for the welding/ mechanical side. the wood dividing wall will have all my wood working tools with wooden benches and storage.
