Galvanized sheeting in bath rooms

Ok, so I have seen pic's of bath rooms with the galvanized corrugated metal in them,
What I want to know is , how do you keep the stuff from corroding from the acidic moisture in the bath room.
I see what it does to everything that's not chromed and then it often has an effect on chrome shut off vales and lines.

Anyone ?

the DIYers just put it up and yes it corrodes, and continues to corrode..what they don't show is the coatings used (front and back), often epoxy, or other "clear" coat products. Even the contact with other "metals" in the bathroom area can be problematic.

Fasteners will need to be isolated from the panels or adequately coated.

Get your panels cut and fit then, before the permanent install, spray them with matte clear. Put on a few coats to make sure the galvanized is buried. Other then that I have no clue...

I was thinking about spraying a clear laquar on them , a couple coats .

If your'e talking about Galvalume, the "natural" steel look metal building roofing/ siding material, it will look the same for your lifetime used interior, because it's coated to be exposed outdoors for years.

Now, if you want the old school corrugated profile rather than one of the "R" panels, I'm not sure if that's as readily available w the clearcoat as the R panels. Marc

That would be our cleaning lady and she never complains about anything .

That works for me but can't control the grand kids or others .
I may forget this idea , it looks nice but may not be worth all the issues down the road.

Just my opinion, but with all the beautiful tiles/stone that are offered for showers and bathrooms now..... I just cannot see risking installing something that cannot be 100% guaranteed rustproof and no metal can be.... that is exposed to moisture. . JMO

Yea , many options to be had for sure . I just like that look but common sense has to kick in at some point .

Agreed; use Galvalume plus (+) and it will stay nice & shiny "forever"

I wouldn't use any galv product in a bathroom. almost all of the bathroom cleaning products will quickly break down the coatings, most of them are corrosive to begin with. especially if it gets pee'd on.

Well I just did some research on my question , seems this stuff is a very popular bathroom decoration , full showers , wall , etc .
They had a full pg of reviews and all of them came back glowing . I am guessing they didn't get there metal at Menards.

One review said there's was 5 yrs old and no corrosion , they were even surprized.


But never the less , it's pretty darn popular .

I am in agreement, there are so many really nice ways to remodel a bathroom, why bother with something that may, or may not, not hold up long term? Also, what if you decide to sell the place and move? Will prospective buyers be turned off by the "galvanized look"? Who knows, they may like it, or they may hate, but a sharp looking "conventional" bathroom is always a crowd pleaser.

Years ago I saw on TV "self cleaning"
restrooms. I can't remember how often
the cleaning was activated.

Why not just do it out of cheap steel
and have all the walls Rhino Lined or
something then just have it pressure
washed out?
