First and for most I want to show respect to the families of lost love ones. The event hit me hard knowing I got kids. But I started my day and tried not to think about what happen.

I am building a budget workbench out of black steel pipe. I haven't decided what I am going to do about the countertop. My options are 3/4 plywood, a thick *** door, find a steal on steel plate, or **** and and do it concrete.

Using the gasless mig welder, grinded welds, looks great

Looking good. Don't reccommend concrete. If you have to beat on it it will likely crack. It will be heavy. To support the concrete you will need steel undereneath it, so I reccommend steel to begin with. If the measurements will work, my second choice would be a solid core door. A close third would be a double layer of 3/4 plywood, covered with a replaceable 1/4 layer of masonite. Happy welding.

try your local craigslist for surplus doors

Ive used doors and layers of plywood, also took garage floor enamel and painted over it for a matching surface that is chemical and oil resistant

I made a work bench top using 3 layers of particle board with a layer of 1/4 masonite about 15 years ago. It has been great. I drill into the masonite frequently an never worry about it. I flipped the masonite a few years ago and had a "new" bench.

How tall and wide is it. From the pics it looks like it could be a little "tippy". We know you are going to mount a big, *** vice on it. You might have to weld some tabs on the back so you can lag it to the wall.

Thanks for the pics. We love pics.
