Another good looking cabinet. Thanks for sharing

Do you move the pianos yourself or do you use someone else to do that part? Do you do any woodwork repair to the piano?

My neighbor got his piano tuning training through a guild. Is that the correct terminology?

Thanks Captain14!

I move pianos also. I use a wells cargo trailer for the vast majority of moves, although have to rent a truck occasionally.

The Piano Technicians Guild is an organization for piano tuners. It offers numerous educational opportunities as well as an accreditation program to become a Registered Piano Technician.

Oops, missed one of your questions....

I occasionally will do some cabinet work on pianos, but it's not something I get a lot of demand for.

NEW TOY

Bought a Campbell Hausfield air compressor from my brother 10+ years ago for $50 or so. Worked fine but louder than a 747.

Being space-limited, I needed something a bit smaller and quieter. After some research, here's my new toy.

This thing is amazingly quiet! Like stand next to it and hold a normal conversation kinda quiet.

In my old garage I built a small shelf to hold the AC up on top of the block foundation. I cut the shelf down to the smaller footprint of the new AC, and lengthened the legs to account for a higher foundation.

Lots of small projects this weekend.

I have some dead space behind my Craftsman Tool Chest. I also have a few items that I don't use often, but do need occasionally. In my other shop I had a nice heavy duty set of metal shelves. Trying to maximize space I wanted to get it as close to the wall as possible, but with the foundation block, I would need to adjust the back legs of the shelf to sit up on the sill plate on top of the foundation block. After unscrewing a gazillion screws and nuts and readjusting the shelves, I got it the way I wanted it.

I also moved a small workbench from my other shop. This one will sit next the the door going into the house. I mainly use this bench as a desk, but do occasionally work on stuff on it. The cabinets were freebies from a friend who is a contractor, and the top is a very heavy solid core door I got from 84 Lumber for cheap because it was dinged up.( I actually bought 4 of the dinged up doors and used them for bench tops on all my benches in the old shop) Stole a stool from the kitchen, while Frank the Rat Terrier is inspecting my work.

Shelving & Storage

I'm running a shelf across the top of my cabinets on the north wall and extending the shelf to the left wall. Bought some 3/4 ply and ripped the 12" deep shelf. Angled the the one end to eventually put a flat screen TV.

Lumber Storage
Found some extremely heavy duty shelf brackets on Amazon. Supposedly these are rated for 1200 lbs/pair when using 5/16" x3" lags directly into the studs. Hitting the studs with all 3 holes is a bit tricky, but didn't take me too long. I had some leftover 1x2 oak and maple that I cut and screwed to the tops.

Upper Storage
With 11 ft ceiling I want to maximize my vertical storage options. From my retail days I have 10 2'x7' grid wall panels that I used for a variety of displays and such. One night I had the brainstorm to use them for shelving, ala the Hyloft type of system of garage storage. Using the same shelf brackets from Amazon here's the first one up on the wall. It's 14" down from the ceiling and will easily fit a regular size plastic bin. I'll have room for another shelf below this one.
