Hello, Ive been lurking here for a few months and just want to say this is an awesome website! I currently have a 23x23 garage, and I have been toying around with adding a 12x12 onto the back of my current plan. The previous owners put a huge contrete slab behind the garage for their kids for a basketball court. I would like to try to utilize this for my addition, but I have one concern. I was wondering if I would have a problem with the 2 concrete slabs not being connected to eachother. I am not planning on knocking the wall out between these 2 garages, im going to be mainly using the 12x12 to store bikes, lawn equipment, ect. The previous owner did tell me that footings were put in, but I really dont know much about that. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!

Check with your town before you even think about building. They will tell you the requirements for your area. Dig a litttle around the slab and you can see how thick it is and if there are footings. They probably didn't use rebar for the basketball court either. Good luck....

As RonBou says, probably not very thick and no reinforcing. You could sawcut through it for the perimeter wall (you'll want to go below frost line in Wisconsin) and use the slab as the floor slab...
