Decided to add a garage addition. File Type: jpg IMG_1851.jpg

Spoke with the contractor and he tells me that the engineer said they had to switch the doors for the gas line, then the guy who dug the footings shows up to get ready to pour the floor and starts apologizing for placing the footing in the wrong place for the doors. Says he didn't look at the plans . So I measure out the garage and whoops, it's not 35' across either, it's 30'. I told my contractor and he says that's as close as the city would allow. I call the city and get told I can go wothin 10 feet of the property line, I tell this to the contractor as I'm leaving for my night shift job. My wife sends me a text amsaying I need to let him know tonight if we want the footings moved to make the garage 35' across . I'm ready to fire him and be my own general on this. Problem is I'm 19k into him already. Thoughts?
(that's a serious question)
I would read what your contract and plans specified, and then hire a lawyer. OP, you do have a contract and building plans you agreed on, right?Great project!
But you already had two doors? How much does one guy need?(that's a serious question)
The contractor lied intentionally to you twice. It will not be the last time. He tried to cover up two errors on his guys' part instead of owning up to it and asking if it will be OK. Everybody makes errors, it 's how they recover that counts. There are good contractors, this is just not one of them. Unless you plan to move in a few years and don't really care what you get, it is high time to switch contractors. Stop work and have a lawyer look at the contract to guide you into breaking it. I'm thinking $19,000 higher overall cost will be a bargain compared to the grief you are facing before you're done.
But it is not my money and I'm a big talker, I'm always too easy with contractors.
