Hi everyone,
I was looking for some help and came across this website so i decided it was worth a shot. I live in apartments and we've had multiple break-ins and today we found some graffiti on our door which usually means theres gonna be another one. I'm not too familiar with the types of doors myself but i know our garage door has a keyhole that is apparently easy to get into and disengages the opener allowing you to manually open the door. We've tried filling the keyhole to prevent access to it but they just end up scraping/drilling it out. The issue is that because we live in apartments theres no wifi access since the garages are seperated from my unit(300ft). I tried buying a wifi extender but because of the amount of walls between me and the garage it didnt work. I bought a simple alarm on amazon that just beeps when the 2 parts are seperated. I was wondering if you guys knew about any alarms or setups that could possibly work for me. Ideally its something that sends an alert to my phone so that I can call the cops. I would appreciate any input! Thank you!

LOL@ All these high tech answers with phones.
How about a keypad, door alarms and a siren?
It would repel all but the most dedicated of thieves.

Have you looked at the simply safe alarm system?

You may want to remove the emergency release string it make it very easy break in.

You may find this video interesting.

Note that the key lock is an emergency release backup for the garage door opener - without it, if the opener breaks or if the power is out, you won't be able to get in the garage.

My dad before had similar issues with a warehouse he had. What he did was remove the handle from the door, so all it had was the hole. He then covers the hole with a plug. In the event of an emergency that you have to use it, remove the plug and insert the handle back in.

Only downside if the crook is smart enough to carry a handle with them, they could gain access, but very unlikely. Most would just move on.

As for alarm, you can install a ring setup if you really wanted something that would notify you.

As for alarm, you can install a Simplisafe setup if you really wanted something that would notify you as that’s cell based. I think ring also may offer that now.

If you can switch to Google Fi as your cell phone service, you will probably save money. Then you can add up to four data only sim cards on each phone account. You can get a verizon mifi off ebay about $30, stick your sim card in it. That will make you a cell phone based wifi hotspot in your garage that opens up the array of wifi based devices.
