Hi all! My first post here, which looks like an awesome forum.

I'm renovating my garage which is a 2 car, 20x25x7.5 ft space. The garage is attached and I have had an issue in the past with keeping odors out of the room on the other side of the garage wall (pets live there, etc.). Anyway for the reno I've spray foamed the garage and I have a complete seal between the two spaces other than the steel door which I need to seal with weatherstripping. I purchased a controller that will activate an exhaust fan whenever the garage door opens for the car. I can set the controller for a specified run time after the door close. It also works on high temps if needed.

The purpose of the fan is to vent car fumes, lawn mower fumes, occasional projects like staining. The garage will be a part time shop for light jobs.

I used a calculator to size a wall fan and come up with about 550 cfm if I want 7 min/room change, which seems to be in the recommended range. I figure the fan will run for 10 minutes or so each time. I do not have any vents cut out for make up air, and am hoping I get enough leakage from the garage doors to provide the air. I'm not too concerned about negative pressure because the garage is well sealed off with foam and there are no gas heaters or anything like that in the garage. I know I might not get the rated cfm if I rely on door leakage, but I can cut out a hole if I need to later.

I don't want something too noisy and was looking at various types of fans. I guess my point in posting this is to see if anybody has been through a similar situation and if they have any ideas on fan types, or anything else I might want to consider.

Thanks!
