Very jealous!!! Our winery is called the "Rusty Wrench Winery"... and I'm always on the lookout for wrenches of odd varieties. My new shop is still in the build stage, so no pictures of it yet; just some of my old shops. I'm adding pictures of every car or bike we've owned to the stairway, like some people do with their family pictures.

Puzzle my wife built for me, and the fan and Fire alarm light switch kinda classify as art (the other light switch is for the exterior lights, need something for it too).....

Old license plates are the kick-panels for the ladder access to the attic space

Here is the most recent piece of art I created to hang (someday) in my garage. I still need to fill it in with Stihl Orange paint and then hang it!

I'm gonna have to start keeping an eye out for those style of fans. Those seem to be the hottest things going now.

Kevin54, the fan was rough when I picked it up

From the Shop fan thread

Just picked this up for the garage after seeing this thread....

Was a little rough looking and the cord scared me.... lol.

I started in on it by replacing the electrical cord with a modern cord.
There was also a bit of shaft wobble (in and out) when I received the, so I fixed the shaft wobble using the washer that was behind the tilt wing nut. It was the same style of washer as was already on the shaft. I added the wing nut washer to the shaft, and used a nylon washer behind the wing nut.... everything seems to be working correctly now. I then got some polishing done late Wednesday night as I had some energy left-- The sticker on the case clamp was in a sad state, so i decided to polish the case clamp and the front sides of the blades, along with the pokey-outey bits behind the blade. Also removed the front badge from the cage and polished up the arctic lettering and trim.

I had Thursday off, so I got to relax... and what better way to relax than play with the fan! I prepped and painted the back of the blades, kind of like an airplane propeller. May not be everyone's taste, but it's exactly what I had in mind. Also pulled it all apart, and prepped and painted the base and casing satin black. It's no where near perfect, but I'm happy with it.

I'm going to head to Lowes tomorrow and buy some t-nuts and some bolts. I want to make a wood base plate that is bolted to a stud (2 or 3 lag screws). The base plate will have 4 t-nuts in it so i can bolt the fan to the base plate, but also easily remove it. Can anyone think of any reasons this is a bad idea?

That fan is sweet. Nice bonus with it oscillating. The one my parents had and used was about one size larger than that. I still don't know what happened to it. One of my sisters must have pilfered it when they were rooting through items in my parents house.

Great find dmw56, When i get my dream shop/garage I have a box full of old wrenches and such I plan on using to make something similar to hang on the walls, along with a few signs, license plates I have collected and some old automotive specific tools/diagnostic equipment, and some old woodworking, and farm related tools as well. I think will look great on display.
