Thought you guys might appreciate this. We bought our house last August and beyond the usual small repairs had one large unfinished space left to work on. The garage! Its small, about 14'x24' and had a pre-installed half wall with a doorway from the front of the garage to the back of the garage already installed. Since the garage enters off the back of the house, only accessible by alley and through a gate it wouldn't ever work for a car. Perfect place for the motorcycles and a small shop though!!!

I don't have many pictures of how it looked pre-move in, but there was no insulation, drywall or lighting. And with a long winter and low funds decided to spend some time on a mural. The finished picture is 11' from wing tip to wing tip. I primered and painted the wall bright white and started with a pencil outline and filled in with black pinstripe paint. From start to finish I figure it took anywhere from 40-50 hours.

I also threw in a picture of the re-purposed kitchen cabinets I pulled out of a house my buddy was remodeling. I took them down to bare wood, primered and painted them, and did the formica countertop myself too! You can also see the recessed florescent lighting I put in a few weeks ago.

Check it out!

OMG that looks fantastic! I'm thinking of painting the Yamaha triple tuning forks in the center of the floor under the clear epoxy.

Very !

Any reason you used monochrome rather than colour?

Looks like an '-04 RC to me with high mounts-can't tell from the pic what they are-what else have you done to it?

I went monochrome for a couple reasons. I already had the white paint from the cabinets, and the black paint from practicing pinstriping. So first was materials at hand, the other was that I thought doing it that way would be easier. I don't know if it was easier, but it didn't cost me anything!

The RC is an 2003. I've done the usual stuff; levers, steel brake lines, fork internals, frame sliders, power commander and map, the Micron exhaust was on there when I bought it 06. I do a couple track days a year on it and use it to play around in the foothills during the summer. I wanted one since Hayden and Edwards were racing on them and still love to ride it.

You have or had one? Nothing sounds like them!

Ahh. That tail was on the '04 SP2 over here.

Yep I have an '00 RC51 that I imported back to the UK. Since I got it back I have spent alot of time modifying it:
-Ohlins R&T Forks
-Scotts Damper
-AP Racing 6 pot calipers & cast iron discs.
-PT racing radial MC with flip up lever.
-Braided lines
-Sato Clip-ons
-HRC Q/A Throttle tube.
-'02 swingarm conversion
-Braided Clutch line
-PT clutch M/C with flip up lever
-PT Slipper Clutch
-Durbahn mini rear caliper & bracket
-Braided rear line.
-Moriwaki Linkage
-Penske rear Shock.
-Marchesini mag wheels.
-Modded subframe
-HRP rearsets
-Harris rear M/C
-Durbahn airbox
-Moriwaki Stage 1 cams
-Wiseco High Comp pistons
-Ported Cylinder Head
-PC3 USB
-Leo Vince high mount Ti cans (C/F Yoshi's waiting)
-Ex Toseland Harris BSB Quickshifter
-520 Chain conversion
-Nicky mod
-Ahlman Speedo Healer
-Digi gear indicator
-Durbahn sliders
-Eyebrow lights
-Performance 1st undertail (NLA)
-Custom LED rear light

Probably some more stuff I can't remember. Bike is in storage somewhere as the garage is too small :rolleyes2 and I won't get it back until the new garage is built:(
And yes, they do sound like nothing else:bounce:

Your mural looks fantastic! Great job. I like your black and white paint scheme, especially your cabinets.

Why did you import one instead of buying a Euro model? Is yours original US colors? I always liked the Euro paint schemes, my buddy does paint for a bunch of the local racers and we've always talked about going with the white red and green that Colin Edwards rode it in...

1. Money!
At the time a UK SP1 was £10.5K. I could buy a US spec RC51 for £6.5K.
2. Colour
Yes it is the '00 colour scheme which was another reason for buying it.- Funny how we always like what we can't have-I have shipped out a number of sets of SP1 bodywork! I have tweaked the standard scheme very slightly by having the matt black numberboards on the nose & tail clearcoated. The front fender has been vented and been painted on the top with some silver pinstipes -looks better than it sounds.
3. Paint.
To me if you are going to do anything relating to Colin Edwards, it has to be the Laguna Seca Stars & Stripes scheme -that just rocks!
The early Castrol Honda scheme ('00) looks very dated but the later ('02) scheme hasn't aged so badly. I do like the Cabin Honda scheme from the Suzuka 8 Hour race or the Vimto Honda as ridden by Joey Dunlop at the TT. Ironically, that bike had the engine from Aaron Slight's WSB machine & was pumping out somewhere in the region of 190bhp.

I had no idea how much more expensive they were in Europe than here! Go HRC, geez!!!

At my first MotoGp race at Laguna Seca back in 2005 (or was it in 2006?) at the Dan Kyle booth he had a replica RC in the Colin Edwards red, white and blue and I couldn't believe how amazing it looked in those colors! Since then I've seen a few around with the r,w,b paint scheme, but I've never seen the green Castrol WSB replica.

I've done a little "color correction" on mine as well. I had all the magnesium case covers powdercoated the same flat black as the frame, and removed all the tail graphics as well. I also had my fender eliminator painted the same silver as the tail. I think it looks a lot less "busy" without the extra colors and stickers.

Go get your bike out of storage and go for a ride!!!

Found this thread on garage murals and thought I would throw my hat in the ring. This old style sprint car is life size. Took about 35-40 hrs.

Very cool! We had a tree that I made from sign vinyl in our house for a while, I was thinking of doing something similar for the garage (automotive related, of course).
