This has maybe been discussed but I would like to see what some of you have done with low ceiling attics? I have about 5'8" of head room and I am brainstorming ways to make it useful. Any ideas

I have trusses that were engineered to hold 40 lbs per square foot. So I put 8 feet of plywood down the center and store anything there that would fit through the 16" truss spacing. Outside of that area I store other things like rims, exhaust pipes, bumpers, driveshafts, etc.

Like Mr. Fixit indicated, the attic space needs to be engineered to carry a load. What kind of structure is your garage? Does it have roof trusses or stick built common rafters? It may not have been built to hold any particular load beyond a few boxes of Christmas ornaments.
