Garage Bands.

At a very late age, I decided to pick up an electric guitar to play 1960s instrumental pieces by the Shadows and the Ventures. If you’re not over 60, you probably have never heard of them, but when I was a teenager, the Shadows and the Ventures were at the top of the charts.

So I have a drum kit and guitar amps in my workshop, competing with my tool cabinets. My friends and I play there, trying our best to sound like the heroes of our youth. Naturally, there are problems with acoustics, etc., so I try to sort these out.

If any of you play in your garage, it would be interesting to see how you’ve laid things out. I am sure we have common issues and solutions we can share.

I hope I am not the sole person here with a garage band. Even Road & Track's Peter Egan has one!

I use the room over my garage for mine. I have a 40's vintage Gretsch drum kit, organ w/ Leslie, a PA, mikes, and several guitar amps and one bass amp. everything but a bass guitar. That said, sometimes one of the guys is too lazy to even bring an axe and plays one of mine.

That's a great photo. premiere player. Our amateur band practices right in the shop itself. Our friends come over to jam too, playing jazz sometimes, as in the photo below, taken amidst the tool cabinets:

Didn't EVERYONES band start in a garage? I know mine did back in the 60s.

Without a doubt, The Ventures recorded every possible good tune, you only have to look at a place like Bearshare to see that. The shadows were not that big here, they came along with Cliff Richard.

Many, many sixties bands started (and some finished) in garages.
