Howdy.

I'm doing swing barn doors on my new garage, two entrances. Could somebody point me to a hinge setup that will let me have my cake and eat it too? That meaning I would like to have the door slightly recessed into the frame, but able to swing it open more than 90 degrees so the door thickness doesn't take away from the size of the entrance.

Barn doors/carriage doors...

The first thing that comes to mind is strap hinges- the most common for that particular type of door. And there are ballbearing type strap hinges.

The next would be a heavy duty ballbearing **** hinge- **** hinges give you the security that a strap hinge won't. Of those **** style hinges, you could use a "wide throw" **** hinge. That will get you close to 180*.

Depending on the weight and materials of the doors there maybe other alternatives.

If I remember correctly- there was a thread about this not to long ago (mostly about the door construction), but I think hinges were discussed.
