Hey guys,

I am looking at a cheap but decent looking result for my baseboard around my garage. I have a 18 gauge nailer that I would like to use and shoot some nails rather than screwing or glue anything up. I was thinking of taking 1x4 pine boards priming and then painting them. Has anyone done this and had great results? Would the pine rot out even if the garage is dry except for normal moisture in the air?

Thank you!

I just used composite decking. Should hold op to water and not rot

I have OSB on the walls so I left it about 1/2in above the concrete and used cement board siding for the base. It's impurvious to water and paintable.

Composite decking is a good idea.

As for the pine boards. I don't get water near that area and typically cars aren't wet enough to get it wet.

Google Azek. This is what I use for trim for outside use or ground contact.

Seen some pvc trim. Think a nail gun would go threw it no problem?

Azek seems expensive from what I seen. Looks really nice though.

I ended up using the composite molding. It cut just like wood and nailed fine with 2" brads to the studs.

I would use PVC or similar. Home Depot has a recycled polystyrene base board that has a smooth white finish, no need to paint. Downside is it is a bit brittle, I had one short piece split, using finish nails. No problems after I switched to the brad nailer. I have also used PVC base, it is not as brittle, also doesn't have to be painted.
