elevator. Im NOT kidding. I heard a rumor that theres a guy about 30 to 40 min away from where I live that he has a elevator that goes down to his "garage" under his house. Supposedly he had a **** load of high end cars down there. Who knows if its true or not....

Well Ive seen those setups in the quick oil&lube places with the pit you drive over. But its just not a pit its an actual lower level..........Never thought of putting a car down there but if you can hoist up then you can lower down.

We are considering this when if we decide to build a new attached garage. The property slopes which would make a garage level entry easy from the rear. It would be ajcent the the area of the yard where our pool is located. Having the basement would make a great spot for storing all the pool chair cushions and such that now fill up a lot of usable space in the basement.

We have a friend who's new home that has a neat feature of their basement that my wife wants if we were to do this. A sort of basement level patio with a glass ceiling. They use it as an indoor greenhouse, positioned properly, one could get near all day sun all year long.

I know a guy that has a full basement that goes under the garage, it looks like a parking garage from the underside so I am guessing he used some sorta precast /pre-tensioned slabs and then poured a cap on top of it. He uses the space for his golf swing...

I built a house for a guy one time, not only did it have a 30 x 30 garage with 12' ceilings but the property sloped down in the back so his entire basement, (roughly 10 foot walls) was a garage as well, accessable by a regular overhead door. This guy is a real craftsman and has had some of his cars featured in Hemmings Muscle car magazine. His house is a car guys dream!

My basement is my garage and my garage is my basement... does that count? :)

There was a house down the road from me growing up that had a detached 1 car garage with a basement. I remember thinking that it was pretty cool. There is also a thread in the Garage Gallery about a garage with a basement.

My dad has a very over sized two car garage with a basement. There is a staircase in the back of the garage to walk up and down and you have to drive around the house to use the big door. When he built the house he used Spancrete (sp?) for the upper level floor. Its the same stuff used for parking ramps.

Spancrete sells a residential hollowcore product that can span different lengths and provides the opportunity to create usable space under your garage. www.spancrete.com

A few houses in my area use that product to create a two story garage where one garage is up at first floor level of the house and a second, usually side entry, garage is directly below it at basement level.

I've got a basement garage. Originally it was a two bay garage but the PO put up a detached garage and blocked up one of the doors. That didn't stop me from putting a MG Midget on dolleys and rolling it over to the other side anyway though.

Something like this?

This is my garage in about it's worst shape. $/sqft is about as cheap as it comes. Mine is around 1100sqft.

This is one I've seen with the over/under design. The single door entrace at the end of the rectanguilar garage is a level below the multi door main side.
