Garage Bathroom

We re-worked an old 32 x 56 pole barn on a property my Son bought last year. We built an 8x8 insulated room in the back corner to use for a combination rest room, compressor
room and heated storage. That way you could about keep it above freezing with a heat lamp bulb. We used an insulated steel entrance door. The shop has 12 foot ceilings, so
it is a nice little storage mezz above. In MN, I wouldn't think twice about should I, shouldn't I use the floor space for a toilet.

I put a full bath in my 24x40 shop, and my only regret is that I didn't put it in a back corner. It has been very handy to have that crapper there when it is needed.

My last shop had a full bath in it. Having a toilet instead of a urinal was handy since my wife and daughter help me out a lot in the shop. Where I am now I only have a toilet. I miss the shower. It was nice to be able to clean up prior to leaving the shop.

Yep, without floor drains the water just runs out under the door. Also you won't have a drain to loose dropped screws in or to snag the wheels on a creaper.
Main reason is I wouldn't want all that salt and crud going into my septic.

I don't have a septic tank. I am on city septic. Not sure where your from but last winter in Minnesota temps hovered around -10. Not good for water going out the door.

I am thinking back corner out of the way is the best idea.

I would put in a nice sized sink and use that for the urinal.

Or if you are set on having a full bathroom I would consider a shower as well. Shower in the shop would be nice.

Since my garage is attached I put in a door leading directly into a powder room and my loft is stubbed for a three piece bath. If you have the room definitely go for it. That said, I still enjoy ************* outside when conditions (sufficient darkness) allow since I don't have to put my cigar out.

I just piss out the back door. If I gotta drop a duece i'll walk over to the house. The neighbors are all assholes anyway so I dont care if they get mad.

They don't take up much space and won't cost much now (vs later). Plus extremely handy. And when you resell one day it will add value. Seems like a no brainer to me. I'd also add a shower for emergencies and those crazy projects that require cleanup before entering the main house.

I have a small 50x60 commercial building that had a bathroom with a stand-up shower in when I got the place. At first I thought it would never get used, but it does from time to time. Hot water is a real nice thing to have also.
I plan on putting in a urinal, as the city water is rather expensive.

Google "wet bathroom" or "wet room" for ideas on how to build a small bath with shower, toilet and sink. These are more common in Europe than in the US and when done nicely they could add value to your property.

I think the shower would be nice to have. It would allow you to clean up before entering the house and also useful for an emergency wash of the eyes or face.

Here's another idea. Add a clothes washer/dryer combo that washes and dries in one drum to the garage and you could keep all the mess to the garage. I've seen these on small boats for people who live aboard and sail for extended periods of time.
