Looks like great progress in just a couple of weeks! Im curious about what I see as a "ridge beam", is that just the alignment of many pieces of short blocking, or is it an actual long piece of wood.

Cant you angle the screw enough to shoot beside the nail? Might not be the best but it plugs the hole. Other wise your gonna have to caulk the hole. Some one else here might have some better advice.

Ive only been to the praries once, but I was so amazed at the landscape. And the huge sky, im gonna have to drive out again soon. Great build keep the updates coming.
Thanks. ]

Nice looking build. The 60 ft is AWESOME . . . but I'd want it wider than 28 ft.

Have to ask if this build is middle of nowhere ?? Looks like you have no electricity, no houses, or buildings of any kind anywhere ???

Will you be burning moose dung to create heat for the shop ??? :D

. . . . or do you have plans for Solar and Wind ?? ;)

If the angle is so extreme that you don't think the rubber grommet will do the job, wrap some butyl around the screw and tighten it till it's just snug.

thanks for the input about the screw... for some it might seem like the building is in the middle of nowhere,,,depends on view points. there are some other property's near by and a town with a water station about 10 minutes away. I just had power put in, septic and a 3000 gallon cistern..and for heat, a combo of passive solar and wood burning. this would be a good site for wind power.!

You can get a oversized washer with a rubber membrane that will go with the screw that need to cover the hole.

Gotta say ...... I've never seen a roof sheathed with OSB ....... and then have purlins placed on top.

I've seen the technique on replacement roofs but never on new construction.

Great pics and great build, prairie neighbour! Thanks for posting.

Did you do all the work yourself after the slab was placed?

I'm on 2.2 acres with the neighbour's house waaaay too close. I'd love to have the space, the solitude, and the beautiful views you have. Well done sir!

yeah,,,the purlins on the osb is overkill,.,,,but since it is a windy area, i felt better about the screws in the purlin compared to the osb. if i was doing this again i would have used plywood for the roof and attached directly. and yes,,i have done all the work myself with some help from friends and family. the only thing i did not do was the concrete placement. its been a hell of alot of work.!

I love the wide open feel you have there! I bet it looks fantastic in the spring & summer.

Is your roof finished now?

the tin is on the roof,,and the chimney is in,,just need to finish little things like ridge cap, and what not,,,and then start on the garage doors.... and yes,,,the wide open spaces rule....
