Garage Cabinent Install Question

So I started installing some old kitchen cabinets in my garage yesterday...and the only screws I can get in one of the single cabinets are close of the left side of the cabinet.



Is this sufficient, or do I need to move the cabinet to get the screws more to the center.

This cabinet is next to a double cabinet that is screwed into 2 studs, if that makes a differnce.

Screw the single cabinet to the double next to it at the front frame.

If there's not another stud behind it there's not much you can do. Keep the load light in that one.

Screw the faceframes together and you can use toggles on the right side for peace of mind.

What is the backing of that cabinet made of anyhow? If you're screwing through 1/8" plywood or worse some kind of veneer sticker'd hardboard then that cabinet won't be holding too much anyhow. Could you screw a strip of wood onto the back of the frame and then screw a strip to the wall and hang the cabinet french cleat style? It'd probably be able to hold a lot more weight and then you don't have to worry about hitting a stud on each individual cabinet since the strip on the wall is mounted to the studs. You might not want to deal with the hassle if you aren't expecting to really load the cabinets down but it's just a thought.

The cabinets are standard kitchen cabinets, not sure what they are made of.

I thought about a version of a cleat...1x3 screwed across all the studs and then screw the cabinets to that.

Yeah, I think I will give that a try....however I am not planning on putting a cabinet on the right!

Are you committed to the layout you have? Otherwise just toggle that in on the right. But if you don't trust that you can take them down, cut a sheet of plywood for behind and hit the studs with that. Then you can go nuts with screws into the plywood backer.
