Garage Cabinets - Seville Classics Opinions? Availability?

I have been looking at Seville Classic's brand of garage cabinets, workbenches, shelving, etc..

Would appreciate any recent experiences with these products, opinions and information about how you procured them.

Apparently, Seville sells some of them on-line (those light enough to be shipped by normal consumer shippers (UPS, etc.). Other products, such as their tall (6') cabinets are too heavy for UPS and subsequently, can't be ordered on-line from them.

They sell many of their products through Sam's Club. The local club has a few of their products, but not all. I have contacted the company and am waiting for a reply relative to purchase.

Any feedback on the product and how you might have obtained them, would be helpful. Some of the cabinets are shown below.

I bought the HD roller cabinet from Sams club. I put my benchtop drill press on top and used the drawers for my wife's gardening shears, shovels, gloves, and hose nozzels. It is a nice unit, and is very sturdy, no doubt it was worth the money for what I use it for.

The service from Sam's club was another matter altogether, I ordered it online and was sent a tracking number a couple of days later. I followed it to the day of delivery when I recived notice it had been refused and was being returned. A call to UPS revealed that the box was badly damaged and they were certain pieces were missing, it was not even in the original carton. A call to Sam's club was made to make sure I would get credit and ordered a new one. I waited patiently for a tracking number for the cabinet, after a week another call was made. I was told that no new order had been made. I placed a new order and again waited, a tracking number was sent and finally the box arrived. The box was wrapped with fourteen layers of packing tape and was obvioiusly damaged, I suspect this was the firest box that did not ever get delivered. I opened the box to discover nearly every panel was bent or scratched and some parts were missing. Another call was made to Sam's and a pickup ticket was issued, and another cabinet was ordered. Finally this one arrived intact and undamaged, so, if at all possible pick these up at a store and do not have them shipped. It took me a month to get this cabinet, I haven't ordered anything else from them.

Sam's is the only place I know of to buy them other than ordering from their web site, and I have spent some time looking for other sources. They have gotten pretty good reviews from others on the site, and seem sturdy in the store. I'm planning on getting a couple of the tall cabinets and a couple of the ones that you can roll under the bench. Just procrastinating on spending the money now.

I have one of those workbenchs from Sam's Club that I bought a few years ago. I put a metal top on it to make it more durable. Other than that it's stock. I've been very satisfied with it and it's seems to be of quite good quality. I don't know if you can find another heavy duty workbench better than that one for the price.

I just purchased two of the Ultra HD Storage Cabinets from Sam's today. They are nice and will work well for storing relatively light items. I'm not sure how much weight the shelves are rated for. The gauge of the metal of these units does not seem to be to heavy. They seem to be of decent quality. To assemble them you have to screw everything together; I mention this because it makes them less rigid than a cabinet that is welded. I'll post some photos tomorrow. I paid $188 for each one. I think considering the amount of storage you get they are a pretty good value. They are certainly more pleasing to the eye than the wire rack type shelveing I've been using. Of course if you need a real heavy duty shelve it's hard to beat those wire rack shelves, which will hold just about anything you are strong enough to lift up on put on them.

I'd also note those Chinese Ultra HD Storage Cabinets were packed very, very well. Lots of styroform in all the right places. No damage to anything in the boxes.

Yes, the cabinets look great......that's why I am so interested. For ~$1K can have work benches, cabinets, wall storage, et. al.. Pretty good for all the pieces (8-9). Also, it seems to be very good price point for an average consumer garage/use pattern (is there such a thing as "cabinet duty cycle"?? ).

Looks like I can get most of these through Sam's.......but not the tall Ultra HD Storage Cabinet or the Ultra HD Workstation (bench w/cabinets underneath built in). The tall cabinet is what I really want.

Any ideas on getting that if the local Sam's doesn't carry nor is available on-line?? Ugh.......should be easier to just pick it up.

The only thing pictured in your original post that isn't stocked at our Sam's is the wall cabinet. Maybe it would be worthwhile checking other locations if you have more than one.

Thanks for including the pictures. Exactly what I want.....two tall cabinets, the work bench, the two under-bench cabinets, some wall cabinets.

BTW, did you get any of their other stuff to match?? (Also, I assume they are easy to build.......but, from the weight specs. are going to require a truck to get them home.)

A call to the local stores yielded only the bench and under-bench cabinets. The wall cabinets, as you say can be ordered. The tall ones are no where to be found here for some reason.

I'll probably do a wider geographical search......and check with local store management to see if I can order them. If you were able to get them from a Sam's, they must be in their system for ordering. We'll see. Either that, or perhaps I can work out a freight deal for 8-10 different pieces directly from Seville.

It doesn't have the drawers, just two doors. I've been very happy with it. I will be buying the work-bench and more of the items when I can, all VERY sturdy. I have a lot of the Gladiator cabinets too. They are comparable.

Good casters (everything in my shop rolls). Sturdy boxes. Good powdercoating. Good finish on the wood tops.

My ONLY complaint is the closure on the doors some more magnetic tape or something could make it a more positive closure. Unless they are locked, it seems a bit floppy to me.

My local Sam's sells everything except the small wall mount units. They even have a longer rolling version (6 ft wide or so) that is essentially a portable workbench with cabinets under the entire thing, but I don't see it on the Seville website.

I have their rolling bin rack seen here.... it is well built, very sturdy, and high quality. I love that thing.

A few years back the cabinets had a different face material that was an embossed diamond plate with a gray powdercoat finish, and I actually preferred that over the newer stainless. Not only did it look better, but it wouldn't suffer from the fingerprint issues that the stainless does.

I always wondered why they changed because if they still were the older style I'd buy them in a second. I just don't really want the stainless, so I'm probably going to go with the Gladiator cabinets instead.

However, you can't beat Seville as far as the cost of those benches is concerned. They are very well built and have a solid wood top with adjustable legs. Considering they are about half the cost of a Gladiator bench, they are a very good value.

I have this workbench at home with a grinder and a vise mounted to it. Great value for the money and it bolted together with the best fit up of any thing similar to this that I have ever seen. The top seems a little soft for it to be maple "hardwood" but the top alone costs more than this entire workbench from other sources so I can live with a little softness.

Thanks for the info, guys. Sounds like the recommendations are 100% positive fr these Seville products....if I can just find all the pieces (preferably in one place....Ugh.). And, of course, a way to transport all of the that home....lots of weight. Will need a truck, the only other option which I'll explore is getting Seville themselves to ship all of it to me via freight carrier. Perhaps they'll do that if I buy 8-10 pieces at a time.

Any other speed tips??

Thanks to this post, i just spent $710 at my local Sams Club last night! I have been looking and thinking about what to do and looking at Craftsman and others on this site. Bought my bench, tall side cabinet, shorter cabinet fo the bench and the stainless steel work table. On line it would have run another $100 PLUS another $200 in shipping! Cost me $40 to register at Sams and saved $260 on the spot!

In my opinion the Seville Classics system is the BEST and one of the lowest cost options out there!!!! Pics to come after I get'm all set up.

Sounds like it worked out......I intend to pick some up tomorrow. A couple of tall cabinets, two low rolling cabinets w/wood tops, work bench, etc.. Seems they are pretty well built after seeing them in person (finally). Price looks pretty good for as well as they are built, especially compared to the better brands, such as Gladiator, Craftsmen, et.al.

Look forward to the pictures. also, Any commentary on assembly would be nice.

Great looking cabinets (and garage). Very nice floor and I see a lift of some kind in the corner of the picture........wish I had the "usage-level" for a lift. Would love one. I just can't justify it......on the other hand, the cabinets are another thing. I checked Sears today, who is having a "sale" on some of their cabinets......while maybe not quite the same, the Seville's were ~$100 less each for just the tall, 6' units. That's a lot of difference, considering they most likely are Chinese-made, too. And, the Sevilles look just as good.

After completing the assembly, did you find it easy? Any tips since you've done the bench and tall cabinets already? I'll be buying the same tomorrow plus a couple of low rolling cabinets for under the bench......and eventually some wall cabinets, as well. Seems that the wall cabinets, for some reason, aren't sold at Sam's, only online from them or Seville Classics, directly.

Just FYI, you can also get additional shelves from Seville.

When I was taking the rolling cabinet out the door at Sams, the lady that does the checking said she would like something like that in her kitchen. It is a good looking cabinet.

I have a Wilton Vise: Tradesman 1765 that weighs about 70lbs bolted to mine in photo I posted above. The hardwood top is very stout.

As far as the durability of the butcher block I don't think you will wear it out but it will look horrible if you put the workbench to hard use. I put an aluminum top on mine so if I spill paint hardener and the like I just wipe it up. I've also had heavy car parts on the bench like an automatic transmission. If you put heavy parts on that wood and move them around you will gouge the wood. If you do any soldering on the bench you may leave burn marks. If you take a hammer to anything on the bench you will dent it.

I used my bench for several years without the metal top. I put the metal top on this year. I used aluminum on that workbench because that is what I had. Stainless steel or regular steel would also work well.

As mentioned above, the bench is a NICE solid and heavy wood. I just put mine together last night. Super Simple and did it all alone in about 30-45 minutes. Wrench is supplied but a socket wrench will work even faster for you. Basically 17 bolts to screw in to hold the legs and braces together. The top look so nice I hate to get it dirty

I also bought this stainless steel work table they sell from Seville. I hope to use my real dirty work on that since it would be easier to clean.

The butcher type tops appear to be stout enough for heavy work but I tend to do my "dirty" work on other bench tops; those butcher tops are just too "nice" to get dinged up. If I do heavy work on bench I tend to have a mat handy to cover it.
I was planning on buying 1 or 2 of the tall cabinets but bought a Gorilla shelving unit (at Sams) instead. I think it was about $60. It is sturdy - 6 shelves, 7' high, 4' wide, 18" deep. I made a work bench/cabinet out of it.

I enclosed the back and sides with peg board, adjusted shelves to my liking. I made a bench top for the middle shelf so that is an open area. I placed it on top of the existing shelf and it protrudes out about 4 inches. And I put an under cabinet light above the work top. I put cabinet doors on top and bottom. The shelf below the work top is open and used for books/manuals. I made work top surface and cabinet doors from pine boards and finished them to match butcher block tops on Sam's other work bench and cabinet. I get a lot of good comments on it. It really adds that personal touch to your garage. And you can paint the peg board to your liking. I will put picture of it on here when I find out how to do it.

Yes, please post some pics!! I probably could have done more "in wood" rather than buy these cabinets, but I don't own a table/radial arm saw, nor any other significant wood working tools. Just the usual circular saw, sabre saw, drills, hand tools, etc.. I figured that to make a decent table, cabinet or bench from wood would cost me as much as some of the cabinets! So, I'll stick to the cabinets.

Also, how about posting a picture of the Plymouth and that Gremlin! Love to see those...........it's been a long time since I saw an actual AMC product anywhere. Very cool.

How did they look upon arrival? All in good shape - no damage, etc.?? One past poster mentioned having to exchange 3 of those cabinets via Sam's online before he got an undamaged one.

My experience, for the 6 pieces I purchased, was very good. One small defect in a drawer slide, likely done at the factory. The sheet metal track that held the ball bearings had been deformed and the drawer wouldn't close. I was able to bend the track tab back into shape, although I don't think the ball spins as freely as it should, but the drawer closes. Aside from that, they were amazingly well packed and straightforward to assemble.

I'll be purchasing the wall cabinets after the first of the year. Maybe 6 total.

Can you tell me where that Sam's Club is? I have been trying to find that workbench for a good while now? My guess is it is around $499 or so? If you get a chance, and are at Sam's again, could you get the sku number off of the shelf tag?

@Hunter99 : I don't know about Sam's Club... But, I can tell you the approximate price... I would cost around 600$ at-least depending on the material. I think, I saw similar type of garage store cabinets at My Garage Store. Give a try!

I just bought three of the wall cabinets and am in the process of haning them up. I think the construction is great for what I need it for (relatively light item) and I think they look great. My only concern is the brackets/ cleats they come with are drilled for 16 in stud spacing. the studs in my wall are 16-17 in. That combined with me wanting them to start at my door frame has made the pre drilled holes in the brackets. So I am planning on drilling new holes to hit the studs so they can ple mounted where I want them.

My concern is that with that the some of the brackets do not span two studs. If am able to hit one stud (4 in a vertical line) with the bracket and use anchors on some of the other holes will this be adequate?

Help Needed - Seville Wall Cabinet Mounting Process

I am interested, as well. Just purchased 6 of these to match the balance of my Seville pieces. The tall vertical cabinets, two workbenches and matching short rolling cabinets are fantastic (albeit, an amazing number of screws to drive! )

There is a brief discussion on the site where 1"x6"' boards were used to span the garage studs and then the cabinet brackets mounted to them. It's unfortunate that the hanging bracket system isn't better.

If anyone else has suggestions/tips for mounting these Seville wall cabinets, please post your installation experience/process. Would appreciate it as well. (The cabinet assembly will be a snap - the mounting I'm not looking forward to).

I drilled mine to match stud layout. A few only hit a single stud. No big deal. When I was all done- I drilled & bolted the cabinets all together so it acts like one giant cabinet now.

A better approach is to mount a 1"x 4" runner fastened into the studs. Then mount the cabinets to that. You can use 1"x 2's near the bottom of the cabinets to space them even with the top mount, or if you are going to put a lot of weight in them - use another 1" x 4" at the bottom and place additional fasteners there.

This makes mounting / leveling the cabinets much easier as well.

You could also use the stock mounting cleat to mount a "French cleat" to the cabinet and a matching cleat could then be attached to the wall. A French cleat is a beveled cleat. It's how I hang all of the upper cabinets in my garage. I think there is a pictorial thread on French cleats somewhere on Garage Journal. If not just google it.

I don't have the Seville upper cabinets but do have the workbench and two different rolling cabinets that fit below. One cabinet has been pictured in this thread. It has one door on the left and a bank of four drawers on the right. Has a hardwood top. The other cabinet is just six drawers. Also has a hardwood top.

I think the rolling cabinets are fine for the price. The slides on the six drawer cabinet seem a bit stickier than the drawers on the other cabinet. I may just need to lube them up or maybe they just twist/rack a bit since they're twice as wide.

The workbench I think is outstanding for the price. I have heard of woodworkers buying them just for the top and mounting it on shorter, heavier wooden legs and then selling the steel legs on Craigslist for good money. Likewise, I have heard of people selling the tops and using the legs as a base for a welding table. Point being is that the bench is basically worth the price of the top alone.

I compared it to other 6' workbenches on the market and liked the Seville better as it seemed sturdier. But I was only comparing it based on floor models at another store so it's possible the others weren't assembled properly. One of the other models was a Gladiator and I'm guessing the other was a Craftsman. The Seville certainly was a lot cheaper than those two.

Only gripe I have heard is that some of the tops are slightly cupped or twisted. Mine is pretty good but I'll probably have a local cabinet shop thickness sand it for me at some point and I'll just refinish it.

@Hunter99 : I don't know about Sam's Club... But, I can tell you the approximate price... I would cost around 600$ at-least depending on the material. I think, I saw similar type of garage store cabinets at My Garage Store. Give a try!

I think they are $399.00 @ Sams, you can order them from SAMS Club site, shipping is very reasonable at least on the smaller cabinets. Took them 3 days to ship from California to Kansas. They arrived unscathed. Very Happy with them.

Thanks for the advice on mounting them - I ended up using the lag bolts just spaced a little less than ideal. looking back I would have used 1x4 or 1x6 as it would have been alot easier - less drilling and less measuring. I put a few butterfly anchors in as well for peace of mind - they were rated at 140lbs each so I think that combined with the lag bolts will be just fine.

now I need that work bench underneath.

I just found this thread today so pardon the tardiness. OP, do you have pictures of your final set up? It has been 1.5 years so you're probably done.
