So I have a guy I found on craigslist that has the following up for offer.
7 upper cabinets
4 lower

Says they are in great shape and are real wood, not particle board. So he had posted that they had to be gone by Wednesday starting at 3 and had to be gone before Thursday morning. I called him and said he did not state a price and that I was looking to just put them in my garage, and he said if I would help remove them he would let me have them for free.

So the real question here is should I pay for them? He has new cabinets being dropped off Thursday so that is his dilemma. Should I take them for free as I am offering to help him remove them and told he I will work until done and will take my time as he does not want anything damaged during the work?

Thanks in advance for the input.

sounds ok. around here you can get them free. But removing them yourself, will insure there not screwed up.
Make sure you secure them better with more wood. My fathers cabinets came off the wall onto his car. They got old and moist.

I got yelled at by a lot of guys here on the forum when I started my garage build about not offering up my old wood cabinets. Funny thing was that everyone I asked about them wanted them until it actually came time to come pick them up during the demolition phase of the project. They ended up going right to the dump...Shame.

That is about what the guy sounded like as I told him I was available and would be there at his set time to remove them. He said he did not want his wife to do any of the work as they are heavy. So I think it is a win win for the both of us. Thanks for the input.

If your still in need of cabinets you may want to call a couple Kitchen Remodelers, they are always tossing old cabinets. It would save them some money not having to get a dumpster or bigger dumpster if you took cabinets.

Free cabinets are truly the best way to go. A couple years ago I was selling my house with the following included: 22 foot of Husky brand base cabinets (11 units) and wall cabinets (22 units -double stacked cabinets) plus a 4 post car lift. I couldn't find a single person interested in what the garage and accessories had to offer. I ultimately took all the cabinets, car lift and garage lighting out and with me to the next place, and I am so thankful I did! So, with free cabinets you wont feel too bad leaving them behind.

Ok so an update, I showed up last night and the first questions was have you ever done anything like this. I told them I have construction experience and it should be simple. First they already had the contents emptied out of them all so that was a ++++++. Second I went thru and opened all the doors and I used a sharpie on inside with matching numbers I wrote on the cabinet itself( to make matching the doors back up easier). Next we removed the microwave and then the cabinets came down one by one. The owner had no idea on how to remove them or the disconnect the sink or garbage disposal. All in all the owner has new cabinets coming to be installed today and I am not sure if he knows how much he has bitten off with the plumbing and the tile work they have planned. He thought it would take all night to remove them, got there at 420 and left at 640, so all in all it worked out for us both as I hauled off all the other **** he did not want.
So the cabinets are not all plywood and do have particle board or MDF on some locations. I am only using the upper cabinets so I hauled off them all for him. Hopefully I will be able to hand the cabinets up in the next few days depending on the rain.

Well I have two of them hung with my Plano 5231 storage containers in the middle. I just always stacked them on top of each other and this makes it easier to use them. I plan on expanding to 8 total and making labels for the front to make it easily identifiable. Still have 4 more cabinets left and will have to find a place for them as well.
