Hello everyone,

I'm a new member and I was interested in gaining some insight from you folks about what is a desired garage cabinet so things like material, price, functionality, colour, lead time etc. I work for a high end cabinet manufacturer about to enter the garage cabinet market and would love to hear some feedback from you. I appreciate your time and opinions.
Thanks!

I searched for about a year for garage cabinets. The faux diamond plate Gladiator cabinets weren't as qualitatative as I was looking for. I wanted something that would look masculine for a garage or work shop, yet still look classy and like something an interior designer would recommend.

I seached all of the metal garage cabinets available from Gladiator, Stanley, Lowes, Home Depot, Sears, and none of them quite reached the quality appearance I was looking for. However, they were definitely in a price range I was looking for.

I had found a couple high-end modern kitchen cabinets that would fit the bill, but I didn't want to spend thousands for the garage. I ended up going with a high-gloss deep red interior cabinet from IKEA. With hardware, the set of three cost me about $650.

I don't have very good photos of the cabinet themselves, but this should give you some idea.

It's highly competitive. I'd think twice unless you plan to sell high end cabinets to people who aren't cost conscious. The UltiMate garage cabinets go I just bought were 50% less than the basic cabinets at the local Cabinet Warehouse (kitchen stuff).

Does the Kendon go on the Lotus?

Funny you should ask. No, the Lotus really can't appropriately be set up with a trailer hitch. However, I did post this picture up as an April Fool's joke on a Lotus forum. :)

how are the Ikea cabinets holding up (and the finish)? Are they MDF/particle board with laminate or painted? I've been either too picky, or overwhelmed by the price of good cabinets, and am considering building my own. I'm still playing with ideas for my garage, but I do know that I want sturdy cabinets with a nice vibrant color.

I am a cheap bastage . I picked up a BUNCH of old metal kitchen cqabinets cleaned and sanded them repainted them in Ford blue and installed them less than $100.00 in 30+ feet of base and wall cabinets :D. I am also quite sure they will outlast most anything on the market todaysince they are already over 40 years old and look like brand new cabinets.

Look for a bank or credit union closing. See if you can purchase their old teller cabinets. (This is what I did; see the brown cabinets in the picture below.) They can be had cheap and, any cabinet that can hold thousands of dollars of rolled coin will hold up in a garage for many years.

Personally I care less what cabinets look like. I am not some limp wristed interior designer type foo-foo faux man. As long as the cabinets are solid and functional so they do not break or sag (which means no particle board components) and they are WHITE inside for visibility they are good for me. I learned long ago why electrical control cabinets are white inside. The white interior makes all the difference in the world.
