I was planning to close the ceiling and insulate in the garage of the house I just bought and noticed a problem.

It's going to be tough to hang drywall with the opener operator sticking into the joists. Anyone have any bright ideas?

Along with the original title, I am looking for alternatives to drywall and metal. Is there anything else that some of you have put on the ceiling that will at least hold the blown insulation where it belongs? Plastic Sheeting? Poly tarps? All it has to do is separate the heated room from the unheated attic, hopefully reflect light, and not be a fire hazard.

Not that hard to drop ur current opener and install a ceiling, then put opener back up. But the jackshaft/wall mount openers like the liftmaster 8500 are sweet. Got a commercial one in the shop, by doing so it freed me up to put lights all the way down the center of the ceiling (narrow, tall shop).

As for ceiling, foil faced polyiso insulation panels would work good. Will hold up the insulation above it, add some R value themselves, act as a vapor barrier and will reflect light. Also easy to work with since they are lightweight. I have 3/4 inch foil in my ceiling, I belive its R5, with R25 in fiberglass above it.
