Garage Ceiling

Hello, I’m new to the site and have some questions about my garage ceiling project. I have a 2+ car garage/shop. I’ve already insulated and finished the walls. I installed a drop down ladder and laid plywood in the rafters for attic storage. I’ll be installing a hanging, direct vent forced air gas heater this summer. After I do that I want to finish the ceiling with corrugated (wavy) galvanized panels. These are thin, light weight, shiny panels available at Home Depot. I plan to attach them directly to the rafters with galvanized sheet metal screw, cutting around the ceiling lights and fixtures. I have the fiberglass insulation rolls ready to go. Here are my questions. Is it ok to install the panels then roll the insulation on top of the panels from inside the attic? If so, does the paper vapor barrier on the insulation, face up or down contacting the metal panels? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The vapor barrier will go down towards the heated room.

Don't know whats above the garage or whats in the garage but sheet steel won't provide any fire rating.

The vapor barrier generally always goes to the room side of the insulation however, the sheet metal is essentially a vapor barrier. It's probably not necesarily a bad idea to have the two vapor barriers touching (insulation vapor barrier and sheet metal) there is the risk of developing condensation between the two barriers and you may just want to go with unfaced fiberglass.

Because it transfers thermal energy to the material behind it, instead of insulating it.

Sheetrock is one of the cheapest 4x8 sheets around.....friend did his basement without mud, kept all the screws in a nice pattern and painted, looks cool

Sorry for the belated response but as evs1 points out, it just conducts heat straight to the combustible material behind it. You still need drywall (5/8" to provide 60 minute rating as required by most codes) or other insulating material between the metal and combustibles.

Should wear ear protection anyhow. There is no doubt that it can be louder with a metal interior, but they sure look clean and bright. My fathers garage is metal interior, and I thought it would be louder. It just isn't. Mine will be by the end of the summer. If Mother Nature cooperates, the shell should be up next week.
