Garage ceiling

Hey guys I'm looking into installing a two post lift in my garage it has a 10 ft ceiling now but I would like to go higher I've seen people raising their rafters up by 1/3 or even 2/3 it's a old shop just wanted to get some ideas on if it would be ok to do I know they are 2x6 right now I figured if I raised them I could go up to 2x8 and it would be ok

Welcome to the site. This is a question that comes up all the time, there are several other current discussions on the same topic. You should search around here for a while and read some of the responses in those threads. Does your garage have regular old rafters, or does it have trusses? Without a better description and some pictures it's difficult to say. The short answer is to do it right you probably need to consult with a structural engineer to make sure any modifications don't weaken the structure.
