I was given an old office chair that was covered in a cheap Naugahyde type material that is peeling but the chair is otherwise in great shape and even the foam padding isn't deteriorated.
I am in the process of dismantling it with the intention of recovering the seat and back as well as the arm rests but I am looking for suggestions on what type of material to use for the recovering. These pictures were taken in my lower farm shop but the chair will be in my auto shop so it will get exposed to grease and oil and will be the partner to my battleship desk.
Would a heavy duck canvas type material or the Sunbrella stuff stand up to a lot of shop use or should I look for some other type of Naugahyde (or whatever its called)? I'm not so much worried about stains as I will likely do it in a dark green or black but I want something that will wear well and stand up to an occasional cleaning.
The arms and seat are whats peeling but the foam padding is in great shape underneath and my plan is to just cover over it.
It will be pretty straight forward and I did something similar with the cushions of one of my sail boats.
