Garage Curiosities - Stuff That Makes Our Garages Unique

I had a buddy over last night, showing him the work I've been doing on the back part of my shop. He told me I should patent some of the things I have created in my garage over the years. That got me thinking that I bet a lot of folks here have some neat stuff they have built to make their garage space unique. Here are a couple of my creations:

These are the bomb bay style doors I built to access my attic space. I initially built the two doors thick like they are so I could stuff them with insulation. Then I threw a piece of Styrofoam above. I finish the project and realized that they needed to be painted up like an old set of bomb bay doors.

This next one is a ladder storage bin/cavity I just finished (aside from paint). I am re-roofing and painting my building because it leaks and is **** ugly and I ended up with some left over steel. Since I was getting tired of having to use sloppy, wet leafy, bug infested ladders, I created this storage bin. It is 3.5 feet wide and 40' deep. I can put all my ladders in it and they stay nice and dry.

Love the bomb bay doors to the attic idea! I'm trying to come up with a door idea that opens up into the attic with some kind of spring assist. But your idea may be stolen shortly! Thanks for sharing.

My garage is built into a hill. So I made the attic with rafters and extra for joists. I can park my atv and zero turn up there. 1200sq' of storage.

yep. suprised this thread havent caught any traction.

that ladder storage is clever idea too. (i just have simple hooks on the walls or in the ceiling where to hang mine. often they do not end up getting back there after use, i **** at organizing, so its only when i start organizing or cleaning the place up when i cant walk around anymore without tripping over everything i hang things back into their place)

so mine aint got nothing cool and interesting to brag about.. but maybe i might brag about my co-workers garage instead.

it has a 4post car lift. the lift has extra addition that he made himself. a middle partition that bolts into the sides making it one flat surface.

he has 3 interconnected handles which control the lift. all in front pillar/post, in three heights. one can operate the lift when sitting on work bench or sitting on the floor, standing next to it. and last control is at the top of the post, so he can lift himself and whatever he has with him up to the top and back to ground level.

he has a storage area in second floor of his shop. and there he has kind of liftgate that delivery trucks have (similar to old time castle drawbridge.) when lift is raised up all the way the gate can be lowered to make a wide bridge into the storage space. he can then just walk in there carrying what he wants stored there or push a trolley or bikes he has up there.

and ps. Bombay doors.. isnt Bombay now named Mumbai in India? :D (but yah, i do like the idea of decorating otherwise dull and akward looking piece. neat touch)
