What's the fail? Looks like a nice building to me.

If you mean the second floor door, that's pretty common. Usually it's because the owner is planning a second floor deck to be added later. You also see these with an extendable boom and hoist for lifting heavy items into the second floor area. The owner is listing it as rental for storage.

Can't believe you've never seen that before:dunno:

Very common in barns for loading the loft. Just a modern city interpretation I believe. Would you want to pack a loft by hauling all things up the stairs or just standing in the back of a truck and throwing it up?

Also common in places that get lots of regular snowfall. Many of the house in the UP of Michigan have doors like that.

Laugh all you want, it would never pass code inspection in our city. Even so it does look funny! Could see many reasons for the application though.

i had an old 1880 home with spiral stairs. -- i cut-out a 2nd story window and added french doors in it's place... it was the only way to get assembled modern furniture to the 2nd story.. we also had a california king matress.

later a 2 story porch met that door.

There is a garage not far from here with a second story door like that. No garage doors under it and no real room on the property for a deck outside the door, so I have yet to figure out what the thought process was. That first step is a doozy. There has to be another entrance inside or on the house side (unseen from the street) because the other end of the building has a 16' roll up door and a double window above. It's not a snow thing around here, that's for sure. 8" brings things to a complete halt here.
