Thoughts please. The wife and I are looking to expand our laundry room, and the most feasible way to do it is to push it into the garage. It's a two car garage, and there is a 3' curb that extends along the width of the garage (same direction as the wall we're looking to move. Essentially we would be encroaching on that curb by 2 feet, leaving a 1 foot curb. I'm having anxiety about this and would appreciate the feedback.

I see such a curb in garages with the furnance/hot water/softener in the garage. About 3" high to keep **** flowing into the utilities from the cars, such as snow melt. What is your anxiety about?

Cutting off space in the garage. There's plenty of room to park now, but if I'm essentially moving the wall closer, will the entry door to the house get in the way? I haven't been able to find any info on definitive dimensions for a garage.

Why do you need more room in the laundry room? Especially 2 more feet of room?

Seems like a expensive and time consuming project for a room dedicated to washing clothes....

As a general rule, a 20X20 garage would be a bare minimum. So, if you're encroaching on that you've gone too far.

Do you have a closet that you could loose and put a stacked washer/ dryer in ?

That way you could gain around 3ft for your mudroom .

I've been in houses where that was done on about half the 3' curb, not for a laundry room but to add a shower in a 1/2 Bath. The half with the entry door was left as-is. I think the water heater was also on the untouched half. It really isn't a big deal as long as you aren't parking a truck or long SUV on the side you rob space from.
