Are there any programs available online? I just want to be able to put in my dimensions and add 'stuff' to see how it will all fit. Will be starting the garage remodel next month and I'm trying to figure out layout of shelving/workbenches, etc.

Edit - I'm a Mac user

I've gone thru several downloadable programs trying to find one that I like. "Smartdraw 2010" was probably the best, but it was a free trial, then ya gotta pay and me being a cheap *******, well...
Go to CNET or downloads.com, type in "floor planner" and tons will show up. Make sure you check the MAC box, left hand column.

An excellent alternative is to layout your shop on graph paper or quadrille tablet and cutout scale "paper dolls" representing the major components you anticipate including. It is very fast and easy to slide them around and try various layouts which you can then save using a digital camera, if you wish.

I used sketchup, they have literally millions of pre-designed items like craftsman tool chests, chairs, cars, anything you can think of. If you've never done anything in 3D it might hurt your brain to maneuver around in the program, but its the easiest 3D modeling program Ive ever used and Ive used a lot in my 9-5.

All good suggestions. I need something simple - not super savvy technically - but also computer based. Thanks for the input.

I use Excel often for stuff like this. Size the grid square and either draw with borders or create objects with the draw tool. I have used images as well. With drawn objects or images, you can move them around anywhere you want.

Here's my house playing around with some deck/patio layout around the pool. I have one with landscaping. I have wall view of the garage for organizing the wall space. I have some cabinet stuff drawn out.
