I am sure there are quite a few people here that have a shop dog. My dog rocks, hes playful watches me work on things but he has a down side.. His hair gets freaking everywhere! Anyone else have this problem? If so have you figured out a way to mitigate it? I have tried to comb him once a week, he gets bathes with anti shedding shampoo , still same ol problem. Its like I need to buy a roomba or something. About every 2 months I pull everything out of the garage and wash it down because of this.

Have one, you should see the filter. The best thing I have come up with to this point for cleaning is get the floor damp, blow off all the tools with the compressor then clean up the floor with a squeegee. I suppose I was looking for suggestions to keep the dog from shedding so bad. Hes a lab mix..

I put mine on an old *** blanket. They've always seemed comfortable and I just give the blanket a shake every week. 'Course when they've been skunked, they always seem to come to the garage first.

Get a 20" box fan, a couple little L brackets, a couple self-tapping sheet metal screws, and one of the cheapest 20x20x1 furnace filters you can find. You don't want a good filter, just something that will screen out the hair and be cheap to replace. The really crappy fiberglass ones that you can see through work great.

Use the 2 L brackets and screws to put the filter on the back of the fan, and let the fan run. Works like a champ taking critter fur out of the air.

A deshedding comb/brush will work much better than a standard brush. There is one particular brand that has impressed us and our clients. Look up Zoom Groom by Kong, on Amazon. Our clients kept bugging us to sell the Zoom Groom to them. The Amazon price is better than what we sell them for, but we are mobile and have the product on our trucks and provide the convenience of the groomers being able to have product anytime we are near their shops. The clients were willing to pay a little more for that convenience.

I always check Amazon first when I am going to order something. There are many reviews on there, on the Zoom Groom, and many other products.

Dog hair sheds and there is no way to eliminate it. We have had Bouvier Des Flanders and while they don't leave hair behind, what does shed is trapped in their coat and they have to be brushed and groomed often. Brushing often, with a good brush, is the best bet. Some of our dogs used to let us use a shop vac on them. I don't know if there are any drawbacks to that or if it will help much, but they thought it was fun.

Have you tried to use a yard blower to chase the hair out of the garage?

Do you have a Furminator brush ? They do really good at pulling the loose hair off the dog.

The other thing is to shop vac him after brushing them. Use the brush attachment, once our Lab figured out it wasn't just noise, he loves it.

IM confused. I have to DE funk my shop every month or so, regardless of a dog fur issue. ******** the leaf blower and send all the dust out the doors.

This is what I do, we often have wind with 35 MPH gusts (like today), I open the front and back garage doors and use a leaf blower.

I wish I could do the same in the house, we vacuum once a week and run a Roomba the other 6 days, sometimes we run it twice a day.

I have the same problem with our dog. I reduced the shedding by aprox 75% by starting her on 1200 mg fish oil capsules daily. She weighs 58 lbs and is very active. I have been doing this for about a year and have not seen any side effects, Vet says she is doing great. Just what works for me.

We have sheepdogs. You just can't win the battle against fur.

Around our house, we think of dog hair as a condiment.

There is no getting around it, if you are going to have dogs or any other animal for than matter, you are going to be cleaning up after them.

Look at the bright side, unlike two legged animals, dogs don't leave beer cans and pizza boxes strewn all over the garage or try to borrow your tools and not returning them later. :D

Our German Shepherd loved to be groomed with the vacuum cleaner..... But she still left hair all over the place, so I got the honor to keep right on vacuuming after her.

+1 for the Furminator. Never tried the shop vac. My golden is ridiculously furry and 95lbs, but is terrified of vacuums.

The real trick is, let the fur build up in the shop to a R20 insulation value by Fall to help with Winter heating costs, then open the doors around April and go to town with the leaf blower. :D

My wife has broken 2 Furminators on our golden, I finally drilled a handle out, filled it with gorilla glue and 3/8 thread rod. They work but aren't very rugged.

Ya know, a saltwater fish aquarium for the shop, stocked with Alaskan King Crab would not only end your garage fur problem, it would also be a seafood farm and be a beer cooler all at the same time. :D
