Garage Door Access....denied!

I have a lot of collector cars and many tools. I just installed a new commercial garage door and garage door opener.

When I talked to the rep for the garaged door opener, he said this is one of the best garage door openers that you can buy, very heavy duty and rolling codes for remote access makes it one of the safest on the market. However....there is always a However...

There have been problems with all garage door openers with persons attempting to gain access either by a remote scanner that runs through thousand of codes until it finds one that is operational, plus the self opening issue where the eyes are out of focus, or vibration cause the eye to misalign after you have left and the door opens, or something laying on the garage floor that prevents the door from reaching its stop. There are many issues that can prevent a full locked closure.

So I'm in the process of installing a second remote control that simply powers the garage door on or off, by eliminating power or turning power on to it. Then when notified of power on I will use the remote to close or open the garage door with the remote that comes from the garage door opener company.

I have found all the parts to do it and I was wondering if anyone has experienced this problem or has a solution that they use before I get started...Thanks for reading..

Sure, However. My garage and workspace is in a commercial space/warehouse. I do not live there, so I would need to go in and turn power on to garage door opener and drive truck in or pull truck out then go in and turn power off to the garage door opener. So although certainly fool proof I would like to be able to just use the remote to pull the truck in without all the logistics. I know, I'm getting lazy in my old age.

I use a home automation hub (Samsung SmartThings) with a z-wave smart outlet, and then plug my garage door opener into the smart outlet. I have an automation based on my phone's GPS location that will only turn on the smart outlet when I am in local proximity.

Functionally it's seamless as I don't have to do anything other than use the garage door opener button, but while I am outside of the defined proximity (i.e. "away") the garage door will not open because there is no power to the opener.

That's a pretty slick idea and not terribly expensive either.

So is the Z wave dependent upon internet access to provide communication with your phones GPS? I would think it does, but I do not have internet access there. Thanks

Z-wave device to the hub is not, but yes, hub to phone for GPS location is. Bummer. :(

I would think that any of these cheapy devices would do want you want - depending on the range

I use Z-Wave for home automation and have a z-wave outlet in the ceiling that will automatically turn the power off at night and back on in the morning - but when you talk about hubs and switches your starting to get into some money

Since I dont have internet there and although I have tried internet before at that location, its tough. It was built in 1896 and has a thick brick walls all around, signal for a wireless is poor.

One of the problems I have is that I will need two remotes. The Dewenwils looks like it would work well, but only one remote. One of the companies I looked at, which had a similar product, told me to buy two packages. I could use both remotes on either cord. My luck is someone might also have that, not likely but possible.
