I recently purchased this house, and as I am away due to service, I don't get much time to work on it. So, I need to cool the garage door, and insulate it or put a heat barrier, whichever is recommended. There is a room above the garage which gets very hot during summer, and cold during winter. The pics show the room. I will be home for Christmas, so I will be able to do minor work. What do you guys recommend for the door and for the room above the garage. I have opened up the knee walls and there is minimal insulation. Garage door is black too. Think I should paint it white?
House is in South Carolina.

First step would be foam board on the door.
Then color shouldn't matter.
It looks like you have ridge venting on the roof.
Do you have good soffit venting to let cool air in?

I will do the door at Christmas as I am 6kmiles away.
I dont know about the venting for the roof. I did go into the knee wall area, but didnt really see much when in there. I need to be more thorough when I get back.
I am thinking the garage gets warm, heats up floor, and room over garage with carpet etc just gets hot. The room has fans, and attic vent fan and sky lites to open.
I would open them, when hot and keep the ac vents shut with the room door shut. That should vent some heat out. I am hoping to lower the temps in teh garage to work some of the heat out of the room above.
