Garage door bottom seal help!

I need to replace the bottom seal on my current garage door and I'm having trouble finding a suitable replacement. The door is metal, 16 feet wide and 1 7/16 thick. There are no channels to mount a new seal. The current seal is rubber/plastic and is screwed to the bottom of the door with what appear to be sheet metal screws. It looks like there is a recessed channel along the center of the bottom of the door, and that's where the current seal is attached.

I was going to go with a replacement kit on (see link below) but just realized that the bottom of my door is not flat. The front part of the door (facing the driveway) has a small metal lip that comes down about 1/8 of an inch. So If I install the replacement kit that I linked below, it wont sit flat/level.

I searched for other options but all I could find is this generic foam rubber seal (which might be fine).

Hopefully you guys will have some better suggestions.

I went through this a few years ago. Tried to fix it myself by buying a cheapie HD kit. Took two kits to cover the width of my door. It lasted about a year and began to loosen up.
I ended up calling a garage door company. They installed a retrofit kit that captures both side of the door, solid install and seal. No problems since.

Thanks for the reply. How wide is your door? Also, would you mind if I asked how much it cost to have the kit installed? I'm sure it'll be twice as much in NY but at least I can get an idea of the pricing

BTW, mine are insulated doors, not wood.
I don't know the width, standard double car door.
Nothing to the installation, very simple, but the only place to get a one piece extruded aluminum channel was through a garage door installer around here.
Not all garage door companies even offer the material or service.
Can't recall the price, while they were here, I had them re-seal the sides with new moulding and rubber seals as well.
I'm guessing $200 or so. *****, so simple to do

Sorry for the late reply. Got a bit sidetracked but I'm back to trying to get this fixed. Calling a few local places to see how much they'd want to do it. i saw some retrofit kits on Amazon but they're a little wider than my door (my door is 1 7/16 thick). Also, since bottom of the door isn't flat I don't think the aluminum brackets will fit well.

I found a local shop that is going to replace it for $160. At that price it doesn't make sense for me to try and fix it myself.

It is either a P bulb type seal or T bulb seal. Not hard to replace just time consuming.

What do you need help with? Remove old screws, install new seal with channel. Seems like a pretty straightforward job.

The issue I was having is that I couldn't find a seal that even closely resembled what I had. the standard "U" shaped seals wouldn't work without installing a retro-fit kit. I was going to do that but then realized that the bottom of the door is not flat. There's a rolled metal edge at the front so any of the retrofit kits would not sit correctly without adding some sort of shim along one side.

In the end I chose to pay a local company to do it. They only wanted $160 which seemed more than fair to me.

$160 just to find the correct seal and bring an impact gun. Your door dosnt have a manufacturer on it?

I couldn't find a name on the door anywhere. The door is pretty old. It looks good because the prior owner painted it before selling us the house.

To me, $160 feels like a win just to not have to deal with it and move onto one of the other 20 things my wife is asking me to do.

I dunno….but I DO know that, for $160, I would make it a big EFFORT to locate "something" that I could use.....I'm a retired engineer, and I've always loved the challenges AND rewards of "figuring sumpin' out & saving money doin' it!!"

Hey if you "dont want to deal with it" I hear renting an apartment is pretty trouble free.

Wow so he decides to pay someone to do it and you decide to run him down for it. Geez i just payed someone to clean my car because i did not want to deal with it, have a good advice for me? Bus? Taxi?

Pay the $160 and have it installed. While the installer is doing the work, enjoy a beer or do something else you like. Price is not the only criteria when deciding whether to do it yourself.

X2. There are quite a lot of things I've done for myself on the past that I now farm out if the price is acceptable because the work isn't something I really enjoyed or I only did it myself because I really couldn't afford to have it done.
