Garage door brands

I have decided to let a company install my doors. I have looked at Clopay, Wayne-Dalton and others.

I did find company called the Overhead Garage Door Company. Almost seems like a franchise operation from what I find on the web.

Any info on them? I have been told they actually own Wayne-Dalton. Also they seem to have their own brand of openers. I have no idea if these are rebranded from a major company like Chamberlain or Genie.

There pricing for doors and install seems unbeatable and salesman was willing to drive the 30 miles to my house to look things over.

Any info on Overhead Door Company (good or bad ) is appreciated.

Yes, they are a franchise based company, but they may handle product other than Overhead Door brand as well. Their openers are Genie (they own them as well as Wayne Dalton) even if they say Overhead Door on them.

Overhead door also owns Genie as well as WD. I personally stopped using Genie when OHD bought them. The OHD distributor was a real ********! I'm from the old school..If it tastes like **** I don't eat there again!

Things may be different in your area, all the major manufacturers make good products, they have to in order to stay competetive. If OHD is the best selection for you, maybe just go with
a Liftmaster opener..Good luck!

Sorry I type slow haha. Just a little FYI..OHD invented the sectional darage door.

So your issue was with the DH dealer not the product??

Any concerns with the Genie opener as you suggested Liftmaster?

Thanks

My experience with my OGD has been positive. The one annoyance is he refused to adjust anything related to my motor because I purposely installed the photo-eyes in the roof rafters (I find them quite annoying but my motor requires them to be installed to operate). I don't blame him, I am sure the policy is meant to avoid liability.

We have Horman Doors here in Middle TN, they are well built and ours is insulated...not sure who owns them, but the local door guy is easy to work with and the prices fair.

Depends on your local market... the best brand ***** if the installer / company does...

Personally my hands down favorite brand is still garaga - however i sell northwest door products - a very good product itself... richard wilcox is one of my other preferred brands.

Overhead's funny, they rant and rave about their seal on the rabbet - yet why can you often see light through between the sections on those 297s they sell? Overhead doesnt own genie or wayne dalton - however they all are owned by sanwa (along with many other names in the door industry) I've got a mug around here with all the names/brands somewhere...

Buy based on your local supplier, every market is different... the names that get excellent reviews - might have terrible local distributors - so do your research.

Yes very true...not many people outside the industry knows who Sanwa is, so I kind simplified it. In essence the folks at OHD drive many of the decisions that WD, Genie, etc make, so I kind of lump them all together.

One other thing you said is very true. Your local supplier and installer means everything. Most all of the manufacturers make good products (and cheap products as the markets dictate it), but installation and service is everything.

OP, yes my issues were with the distributor, still are. I started my career with OHD back in the 70's and really have nothing bad to say about their Doors!

John and Andy make a good valid point..but unless you have a good personal reference it is a bit of a **** Shoot, check with the BBB. Around here we have a Registrar of contractors as well as BBB, Don't want to be on eithers bad list!

There are also small sub-contractors like myself, that can get you pretty much what you want. People in my neck of the woods like knowing the guy that they are talking to on the phone is the same guy doing the work!

I had a Garaga door installed with 5 pains of glass. In 1 year I had 3 pains crack, 2 the seals went and fogged up. Installer says they are manufactured too tight. Windows were replaced under warranty (had to argue and fight for that) - however I had to pay to have them installed.

I wouldn't recommend Garaga - at least not a door with windows, unless you want to spend 100 to 200 a year.
