Hi all, we are having a custom house built with a 27’x42’ 4 car garage. The contractor quoted me what I think is high for the 20’x9’ door. They will let me shop around and provide/install it myself, or hire another company to install. What brands should I be looking at?

This is an attached garage in Minnesota. I’m considering R10-R18, there will be a heater but I’m not sure how often I will actually keep a set temperature over 50 degrees in there for extended periods.

I’ve been quoted Coplay, Hass, North Central, CHI, DoorLink, along with a few others that were to high of quote. I put a CHI in my last house and was happy with it. But wondered if anyone would recommend one of those brands over another and why?

I put the 3 inch hass last fall R25 I think. The reason I wire homes and was always impressed with their work. The installers are as important as brand.

I haven’t seen them but was told the Haas has the best weather sealing with actual gaskets between the panels. So it’s definitely in the running

Cant say that I have much experience with doors, heck I don't even know what brand my shop has, they were included with the building 'kit'.

I do see a lot of Overhead Door Company doors around here though and they always seemed like pretty nice doors to me. Just another brand to look at if your open to suggestions.

Been installing them on new builds, remodels, and additions for years.

Good quality, good value, and a good reputation.

That's the brand I used for my garage, and have been happy with them. They have several dealers in Minnesota.

After reading up on the topic, I decided on either OHD Company or Garaga, and ultimately chose Garaga. Not cheap, but am very happy with them, as they look great and seal up very tight.

I have always used Clopay -- they make a wide panel design that I like with the 20' wide classic doors. Not as busy -- no windows. Full foam.

My oldest is 25'+ years old and it's faded a bit (I can tell) -- But, it gets blasted by the sun. It's a nice strong door.

I'm sure all the big players make a decent product -- you want a foam filled door. The 20' doors are more money ... and there are less options.

One thing you must do IMO -- get the uprated hardware/tracks. The tracks and hinges make a big difference. I like getting the BB nylon rollers ... but you can always switch them out if the builder wants too much. Replacing the tracks
