Garage door cable unwind at top-help!

I have a 7x9 non insulated aluminum garage door with a broken spring. The last spring was a pro replacement and he used 218x2x23. It never seemed right because the other same doors have 33in springs

I bought a green 243x2x30.5 and did 31 turns but it ran very hot. Whenever I reduce to a neutral weight the cables unwind at the top of the travel. The travel is no more than the other same doors (I have two separate singles)

Please help

How did you decide that the spring you bought was the correct size?

Springs sizes for overhead doors are chosen by door weight and height.

It sounds like you chose the wrong spring size.

If you are not sure what the correct spring for that door is. You need to weigh the door.

Thanks for the replies. I just weighed the door and it's 85lbs. I'm having trouble finding a garage door by weight table to confirm spring size.

The spring you put on there now. 243x2x30.5

looks like for a 147-158 pound door
So the spring was too strong requiring less windings which meant it ran out of winding at the top of travel?

Do you happen to know the proper spring size?

What does the catalog say for 218? Just want to double check what I'm seeing online. Thanks

Thanks again to nickel twin. The new spring worked perfectly. Correct size makes a huge difference, doesn't seem like much wiggle room.
