The ones at each end of the torsion bar thingie...

Their both just hanging from the door this morning & not around the spools on the bar. The ******* are still on the end of each cable.

So... How do I fix this? just wrap them around the spools & hook the ****** in the doodad that secures them...

Or is this a ball ache in the making?

Seems like something else went wrong to cause this...broken cable end, broken stud on the door, broken torsion spring. Remote possibility a setscrew wasn't driven in enough and slipped on the shaft.

I would try to do it correctly and lower the door and connect everything, get one side hooked up, apply vise grip to the torsion bar, get the other side hooked up and start to tension the spring(s) with proper winding bars.

If you have never seen it done before it can hurt you.
If both cables are off then the spring is unwound and will have to be rewound.
First check to see if the spring is intact and not broken.
Do you have 1 spring or 2 springs?
If you do not have the proper tools do not attempt.

Id wait and talk to your buddy. Those sprung torsion bars can do good body damage (human) if not done right.

Good for you to call in help.
But a PHFTT o those that continue to blow the smoke of garage door spring dangers.

Can they hurt you?
No doubt.

But so can any skillsaw without observing correct safety rules.

I am al for calling a pro if you feel out of your depth,
Bit there is little in garage construction that need a rocket science degree.
