So I got three quotes for garage door companies and need help deciding on a door/installer. My doors are 10'x9'3". The garage is a pole barn and has a board and batten exterior so I don't feel the raised panel look works, so that limited the models I could choose from. The doors I have now are separating (insulated steel) and need new bottom panels. I could just get the bottom panels replaced but the rest of the doors would still be 20 years old. Or I could upgrade to new doors and add a top panel for more light in the garage. The three quote I got are for:

Amarr 3000 (R-9)

CHI 2284 (R-10.29)

Wayne Dalton 8300 (R-11)

Are these door comparable in quality or does one stand out over the others and does repairing the doors I have now make sense (BTW the are Overhead Door brand).

Thanks,

Mike

Depends whats wrong with your current door...Wife & Kid smoked the top 2 panels of the Clopay in our attached garage this winter. Buying the 2 replacement panels needed was 600.00, whole new Wayne Dalton was 750 (Clopay was an extension spring door, WD is a Torsion)...SOOO happy I went with the Wayne Dalton door, IMO I feel its a heavier duty, better built door. The Clopay was much more "detail finished"...like the window bezels were nicer, etc...but the door itself was flimsy.
I have no experince with the other 2 door brands, but I wouldnt hesitate to buy the WD....When I built my garage shop, I didnt even think about the doors, I just told my building supply "3 more of what you sold me in Feb"

Thanks for your reply. I am thinking of crossing the CHI door off the list because both the Amarr and Wayne Dalton use 25 gauge steel vs. the CHI's 27. So the new question is, are the Wayne Dalton doors that much better than the Amarr doors to pay $600 (2 doors installed) more to get them.

Which Amarr model are you looking at exactly?

The Wayne Dalton model definitely does NOT have 25 gauge skins. They are 28 gauge front and back skins.

If the doors are 20 years old, I would recommend replacement.

Those all have the raised panel look to me

The CHI 229x series tries for the old school recessed panel look. Foamed-in-place urethane, 25 gauge exterior, 27 interior, "rated" at 12.35R. I've never seen one in person, but they're on my list.

Thanks for the replies. The Amarr door was the Heritage 3000.

After getting only one reply after two days I went with the Wayne Dalton door. Mostly because the installer was recommended to me.

John, what make you say the Wayne Dalton door has thinner than 25 gauge? And is your experience with the 8300 door?

Thanks,

Mike

I've got 4 of em now and I love em all, even my buddy who helped me install all 4 was amazed at how nice they work. Smooth as glass operation...I dont think you'll be dissapointed performance wise. Like I said, if asthetics were the only concern, I'd probably steer you to something else.
