I just installed a 6' wide garage door with extension springs similar to the one in the picture below. I understand how to adjust the tension on the spring but am having a very hard time getting the tension perfect. When I close the door, the door has a tendency to want to spring up just a little off the floor by maybe 1/2 of an inch. This would seem to indicate that there is too much tension on the springs. But when I adjust the springs for less tension, the door doesn’t seem to lift as easily. I am wondering if this is just an inherent problem with this design? Has anyone else experienced this?
Another thing I noticed is that because the pulley is mounted to the horizontal part of the track, when the door opens, you lose 6” off the height of the door opening. It just seems like a bad design all around. If there were a separate bracket for the pulley that made it so the pulley sits 6 inches higher than the track, the door would open fully.
