Garage Door Fix?

Hello Everyone!

Anybody know how to fix this top garage door panel from popping outwards when it’s closed? I’ve adjusted the fully closed setting but that doesn’t help. I’m wondering if there is a shim or something I can place in the track at the top to keep all the panels in alignment. I’m a bit OCD and I hate how the panels aren’t all in alignment. Thanks! cf8af4c54f10f2be8f1e4af8903050d5.jpg3c0f753a2221e92a125f5a580617b76e.jpg

Looks like you need to move the panel below it in some. It appears that the bracket is adjustable from your pic. Bring that one closed to the opening and it will probably fix the one you are looking at.

Looks like your lower side brackets need adjusting to move the lower panels closer to the door opening. The one that we can see in the pic and the one below it

Check the hinge numbers on the hinges holding the rollers. Maybe the hinges are not in the correct order.

Another thing to look at is whether the opener is putting a big outward push on it. If it is, you can shorten the bar connecting the two so that it ends up pushing mostly down.

My guess is that the top panel is hitting the header before it is pushed all the way forward. This is not uncommon. There are ways to fix, but all will require quite a bit of adjustment.

To this point, if the track is attached to the framing but the drywall run all the way down to the header on the short upper wall, then this can create a 1/2" or 5/8" crash condition for the door, and might cause your problem.

In other words if you look at the picture with the flat 2x4 that's holding the vertical track, the vertical plane of that opening touching the metal standoffs should be uniform all the way around the perimeter of the door, especially across the top. If its not, and a drywall edge is in the way, that is a problem.

Is the opener pushing the door too firmly down? How does it look if you pop the release to disconnect the door from the opener?

I had a similar issue and fixed it by removing some of the brackets and using metal washers as shims to push the door out. That might not be the right way to go but it worked in my situation.

OK. I’ll check out the header and the drywall. And as far as adjusting the lower track and the opener pressure, did all that and nothing helped. As soon as I adjust the closed position on the motor, a gap is created at the top of the door. I also tried closing the gap below with the track and that didn’t help either.

Pull the cord taking the door off the opener. Open & close the door by hand to see if it still bulges out without the opener. That will point to either a door problem, or an opener problem. I'm betting on a door problem, & mounting of the rollers. Let us know......
