I have a four car garage with two sixteen by seven foot doors. I live in the upper midwest and I keep the garage heated to a minum of about 50F during winter.
The doors need to be replaced. For aesthetic reasons, I would perfer steel doors with insulated glass windows throughout the entire length and width (see attached pdf). I am aware that the presence of windows (insulated glass or not) will result in less thermal efficiency.
Here's what I'm looking for:
(1) Some idea regarding the magnitude of the difference in thermal efficiency between steel doors with insulated glass vs those completely without glass (e.g. an r-value comparison). I asked the local overhead door distributor and he couldn't provide me with specifics.
(2) If anyone on the forum has had insulated glass doors in a cold environment, I would like to know how it worked out.
