I’m moving to a house with a smaller garage door than is typical. (6 feet high by 7 feet wide). Will my 2020 Highlander fit through the door? The height is around 68 inches, so I know it would be tight. Thanks for any advice.

I guess what I’m asking is, if the garage door is 6 feet high, can I expect a full 72 inches of clearance? I do know how to operate a tape measure.

The bottom edge of most garage doors hangs down slightly even when fully up. You may be able to improve that w/ an adjustment. Some also have a pull handle to open the door from inside so you could remove that and maybe move it to the top of the bottom door segment. It is going to be close.

Individual panel sections have different heights, so it doesn't necessarily require a "custom" door. It's not uncommon to have a short door if there isn't space for a tall one. GF has a 16' wide door that's right around 6' high, as that's all that would fit below the header. It has the double track to allow a small radius bend at the top, and it's adjusted to sit really close to the door opening as far as height goes. Proportions look wacky, but she didn't want single doors.

OP's door size can be made to work, but using it for the Highlander is likely going to be a PITA. I keep a hot rod in a garage that's barely wider than the car, and I hate moving the car in & out even the once every couple of months I use it. At 76" before mirrors, I'm betting that the Highlander will require folding the mirrors every time going into that garage. With mirrors folded, that's 4" on each side for clearance if the mirrors tuck in to body width in the best case. Is there weatherstripping and trim around the garage doors that reduce it below 7' width? How attentive are you OP every time you go into the garage?

Can you ask the real estate agent and/or prior owner to measure the clearance height. A Highlander isn't 84" wide, is it?

My truck has a rack on it, to get it into the garage for service I push the door up past the top of the opening and use a block of wood to hold it there. I once forgot to block the door when I was backing it out after changing the transmission, there are two dents on the bottom panel now. Is there room to reframe the opening to fit a larger door?
