Garage door help

I have a 40x60 with slider doors, opening is 14' tall and 17'6" wide. I am wanting to put in garage doors. I think im gonna go with 12'x16' on front and 10'x16' on rear. Any tips on framing it in? I found a guy with a good deal on doors on CL. Thanks

Automatic answer - door will have specific framing requirement and it varies beween manufacturers, ask supplier to provide you a framing detail for the door, then fill in around

he told me an inch all the way around, im thinking I should frame both sides of the door rather than just one since it is so deep or am I wrong?

Just a suggestion, but I would never go with a 10' wide door.

Hi,
I assume the building is wood, so the following is based on that.
You will want to measure the exact width of the doors you will be using. Height as well.
You want the opening to be the SAME SIZE as the doors.
Door stop is installed around the opening and this overlaps the doors.
A nice opening is frammed on the inside with 2x6. What you want to construct will look like a football goal post from the inside.
Run the jambs a min. of 2' above the opening.
The jambs and the framing that the door trim nails to is to be flush to one another.

im going with 16 wide and 12 tall, can someone please post a few pictures of what I need, I was all set to frame it not thinking of a header I was going to use two 2x6 nailed together but I don't think its strong enough.. help please lol

Before you frame get the ACTUAL dimensions of the door you are buying. Some commercial doors are 2" over.

Do yourself a big favor. Go with roll-up canister doors and not sectional doors.

Who is "He" ? I am assuming an installer? If so why can't he advise you on how to frame in the opening?

You are only dropping the opening down 2' Just box it in.. think soffit. frame in both sides, nail up 2x6 jambs, should look like old style football goal posts with a 2x6 running up the center for a spring pad and operator mounting..Done deal! Good luck

My installer, hes out of town im wanting to have it framed and ready when hes back, are the 2x6 "field goals" 6 inch side facing me or the 2 inch side. Sorry my searches are making me more confused and I just need to get this done asap. Thanks anyone that can help

Lay the 2x6 flat, So you have a nice wide surface to mount the track brackets. Good luck..
