Garage Door Hinges sealed my door!

Will these wear out the plastic on the rollers? My door has plastic coating on the rollers - I would think that "constant tension" on these would wear them out prematurely -no? I would love to install these, but want to avoid any other issues with installing them.

I'd like to know the answer to the above question as well.

I had a question prior to ordering. I called and spoke directly to the owner as the OP stated and he was very knowlegeable and helpful.
I just ordered two sets of the Green Hinges.

Thanks dirtymoe77

Can someone invite the owner to this thread?

Thanks
Wes

Here are some more pictures, and I think that the "magic" behind these hinges is more evident from side shots. The tube that the door roller slides into has the hinge bracket slotted on one end to allow the torsion spring to move it. In the 3rd picture, you can see where the "normal" spring tension setting is set to. To create even more spring tension, you can move the spring end over to the right on this hinge into the second slot. Pretty ingenious concept.

I sent the owner the info on this post. I have a feeling he is not very computer savy. He didn't come right out and say that toe but he wasn't following real well when I mentioned 'forum'

I just got off the phone with Lester the owner of the "Green Hinge". He wanted to know how I liked the hinges and if they worked well. The answer was yes they work as they should an I'm very satisfied with the product.
He does read the posts and if you have questions I would think by contacting him thru his web page he would give you a comprehensive answer.
I know of no other supplier of any product that is more interested in your comments and suggestions and is proud of the product he puts out.

We had blizzard-like conditions this week from a heck of a winter storm, esp for March. The hinges worked perfect. Wish I would have known about these years ago.

OK, I was trying to figure out why torsional pressure was needed- turns out it's not, it's just an easy way to install a spring that pushes the door into the weatherstripping.

Wouldn't a new set of seals solve the problem for less money?

Hello, my name is Lester and I am the inventor of the Green Hinge System. First, I want to say a huge thank to Kev442 for the original posts and to dirtymoe77 who went above and beyond with his testimonial. I also appreciate Wangstang for the invite to this thread and all of the other positive comments / pictures Green Hinge System posted by others.

I invented the Green Hinge System because I was tired of trying to adjust my doors to stop the heat loss. I also wanted to increase comfort, stop the doors from rattling, keep snow from blowing in and reduce my shop heating costs.

Now that so many are seeing the positive feedback from our Green Hinge System, we want to remind you that while saving money and reducing energy usage is important, the Green Hinge System also stops the number one complaint door manufacturers get - door rattle.

My "Made and Assembled in USA" spring loaded hinges self-adjust to minimize any gaps between the door and the frame. We are proud to offer the lifetime warranty and stand behind systems 100%!

Please visit our website www.greenhingesystem.com to learn more about energy saving system and contact us directly with any questions.

Sincerely Lester - Green Hinge Guy

what a coincidence, I was just looking at my hinges. My door is only 1-1/2 years old and I had a gap this winter. I found your page through this posting.
I will be contacting you soon.

In looking at the design of this, I have a suggestion:

It looks like you could get better performance if the dynamic portion was not horizontal, but instead was pitched slightly so that under tension, the door moved away from the wall and in compression it moved toward the wall.

Maybe it does that already, but the design doesn't look that way.

The more I think about this, the more I think the design could be better. Something like this for all the hinges except the bottom most hinges:

The bottom one will need the pure horizontal pivot as it would bind on the floor.

This design uses gravity. You would/could also have the spring movement.

Good thinking, I have already made hinges like this as well as a number of others in the process. Just did not work well. One different concept had worked very well except when it had to go around a corner or had to bend. Straight up would have worked very well.

The light on the sides of the doors is pretty much gone. I have one section now that has a tiny bit at the very bottom of the door..and I mean tiny. The other 99% of the problem areas are now sealed! As for the tops of the doors, the hinges won't take care of that...and Lester the owner, told me ahead of time that it wouldn't. The springs just can't do that, they aren't strong enough and if they were the garage door would bind. So, the tops will still have to be sealed up but I've already ordered a seal for that.

Dirtymoe77 and/or anyone else...what are you using for the top seal? I just ordered two sets of the green hinges. I hope they will solve my gap problems on the sides. Lester was wonderful to work with. Thanks in advance!

Just was put onto this Product, and thread..... Question for those who have used these.

I have 2 nine ft wide X 8 ft high doors, but they are only 3 panels per garage door. I just looked and count 4 total rollers per side..... one at the top, one at the bottom, and one at each of the 2 hinges for the center section.

I'm thinking that I can order just 1 kit shown on their website for a 5 panel door that would give me a total of 8 hinges to do both of my 3 panel doors.

I'm assuming that the top and bottom roller bracket doesn't get changed as they are NOT hinges. Correct ?

thanks,
Richard

I have Green Hinges and they work as advertised.

If you have questions, call Lester the inventor and owner of the company, he will answer all your questions. He is waiting to talk to you.

Very patient and knowledgeable about garage hinges.

I have these square hinges that apparently do not work with these green hinges. Does anyone know of any that would work with the square type? The hinges are sort of inset, with a ridge on either side of the hinge that it's riveted to.

Put these on my dad's shop and one of the doors to his house. The shop doors don't rattle anymore and there is no air movement.

I called and spoke with Lester this evening. It turns out, my door hinges are not compatible with his hinges either. Too bad, as it looked like a perfect fix for my doors not sealing well.

He told me I could have mine converted to a standard hinge, and then changed over to Green Hinges, but said I would need to have a door company set it up. With that said, I'll stick with what I have and find another way to keep some of the cold air out.

All sides of the door are loaded with snow. I've been in this house with heavy snows but the wind today was unprecedented. The space between my two doors has a pile 2' deep on the inside

Can anyone recommend the best seal to install with these? I need to replace the cheap vinyl seal on my door, and I was thinking to get a brush seal. But, would that work given the pressure that the green hinges put against the door?

There must be some better options that that cheap vinyl seal!

? Ok I'm at a loss... Jstroede help me out here.

I live in snow country (Alberta yknow that place with oil between Montana and alaska). Up here I would install the weather seal properly not do silly things like modify the door to make the weatherstrip work...

I'm confused ;)

Bumping a very old thread, I know.
I was hoping some of the posters in this conversation are still around and would be willing to give an update on their opinion of this product. It's been about 8 years since your hinges were installed; has anyone noticed problems? Paint stripping off your doors? The hinge springs failing? I'd love to hear any feed back after all this time!

I would've but my track is NOT adjustable. It is riveted in place to the brackets that space it from the front wall. When I replaced the outside weatherstripping I installed it closer to the door so it would seal better but when the wind blows at my house, it blows! Have farm field all around me and nothing to block it. I've registered 63mph STEADY winds at my house. I also had to install support braces on EVERY panel because they flex so much in the wind... This isn't my first rodeo.
All you have to do is drill those rivets out and replace them with bolts / nuts and use those adjustable brackets the way they were meant to be used.

I bought these based on this thread and installed them November 2015 (based on my order confirmation). While I was at it I also replaced the rollers with bearing rollers for some extra quiet. I was very pleased, and continue to be pleased with the performance of the hinges. They are well made and work as described. You will not be disappointed.
