Garage door hinges

Hello!
I’m new to this forum and new to working on garage doors. I need to replace my hinges and I noticed that my bottom hinges start at the #2 not #1. The top hinges end at #5 not four. This is a standard two car garage door probably a decade or so old. It’s heavier than the new ones. So my question is: should I replace the hinges according to the numbers I see? Or, should I put them in traditional order #1-4? Is there a reason why the manufacture would have installed #2-5 instead of #1-4? Cant figure it out and I don’t want to damage anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some manufacturers start with 1, some start with 2. Sounds like yours start with 2. Assuming there’s no issue with the fit currently, just replace them with the same number that’s there now.

I see your LOCATION is "front of house"....duzz that mean that yer garage IS the front of your house...of is "front of house" the name of your city??

I changed it to Sacramento. When I signed up for the forum I thought the context was garage door repair. So I thought location meant where my garage was in conjunction to my house. I thought it was an off question, but some people have a garage in the back. Just a dumb moment for me.

IMHO, an independent garage door service company should be able to match your hinges from what they have in stock for their service techs.

Let your fingers do the walking through the Yellow Pages and look for a shop in your city.

Yes I would think a local mfg. or overhead door repair/service company could fix you up. When I worked in a small place years ago we would have people coming in with parts looking to replace them

Thanks for all the responses. I went into a garage parts depot in my area and they fixed me up. I guess some manufacturers start with the #2 instead of #1. I think I paid about $101 for 20 hinges.

I'm clueless to this garage door hinge 'numbering', could someone please shed a light?

Other than the number one hinge, the other hinges have two places for the roller stem. One is the actual pivot point. The second is stepped back from the hinge point. If you were to put a level on your Vertical door tracks, they are not plumb. They get further from the wall the higher they go. This system allows the door to remain plumb while going up and down. It also lets the door seal against the jamb when fully closed but not rub on the jamb the entire length of travel. Some old companies used fancy levers and bars to push the door closed but they are not in business any more. Simplicity won that battle.
