Garage Door Insulation Options

I currently have non-insulated garage doors and would like to add some. What options are out there that can be added?

Home Depot, Lowes, etc. sell foam inserts. IIRC they sell fancy foil wrapped ones as well.

I did the same. I bought 4 x 8 sheets of 1 1/2" (I think) thick insulation from HD. I then cut them to size and put them in each of the panels of my doors. I also filled the hollow channels with Great stuff minimally expanding foam. To put the panels in the doors, I had to cut them into two lengthwise pieces to fit them in. I used construction adhesive and then cauled the edges. I put the solver fol side facing inward toward the garage. It looks good and works well.

There is a thread named "how to insulate a garage door" that was started on 6/5/08 in which I explain my trials of getting the insulation and also how I installed it with some pictures of before and after. I used a product named Insulfoam and was happy with the results. I am not sure how to link to that thread but if you do a search you can find it.

Thats the link. After having the garage door insulation in place for a while now, I have noticed the difference in the performance of my air conditioner. The door which actually used to be very hot to touch no longer radiates heat into the garage. The other thing I noticed is the insulation is also a great sound barrier allowing me to work a bit later into the evening without disturbing the neighbors.

I think you said yours is 1.5" thick, but I only see 2" or 1" R-values. I measured my door and it will accept something as thick as 1.5"...do you remember what value yours is?

Looking back the foam insulation was actually 1 1/4" thick (the pocket in the door was 1 1/2") and as I recall the R value was about 4.25.
